Program Speaker: Nancy Neidzielski  Program Topic: End of life choices

About the program: Jason Overleese introduced Nancy Neidzielski
Nancy Neidzielski works for Compassion & Choices of Washington (http://www.compassionWA.org) 206-256-1636, 877-222-2816. Nancy was the lead advocate for the Death with Dignity Act (DWDA) that was passed in Washington state. The purpose of the act was to enable terminally ill adults to make their own decision about how to manage their end of life choices. Nancy became involved with DWDA when her husband Randy was diagnosed with brain cancer and she watched him deteriorate after undergoing surgeries and treatment that adversely impacted his quality of life. There are very specific steps that must be followed for a person to qualify with the DWDA. Specific information can be found on their website. States that have accepted the DWDA include WA, OR, VT, MT, and NM. Health care providers are not held liable. This is not palliative sedation. This is not euthanasia. This is not physician-assisted suicide. The correct term is aid in dying.
