Pitch perfect: learn how to make your marketing messages entertaining
Jan. 23, 2023 6:40 p.m.
Do you hate being salesy but need to promote your business? Learn how to make your marketing messages entertaining. In this workshop, we’ll craft a funny pitch using 3½ Rules of Humor, 4 Questions to Craft Your Pitch Story, and The One Thing that Makes Something Funny. Because even naturally serious people can learn to use humor -- no personality transplant required.
Meet Katie Munoz, an unexpected speaker who was born quiet and serious. She fell into public speaking by accident. Being a software engineer, she didn’t think humor and public speaking were skills she would need, but she loved the unforgettable adrenaline surge she experienced when she made an audience laugh. Her public speaking skills came into play when she became a program manager and was able to offer motivation, consolation, inspiration, and celebration, as the need arose. Fun Fact! One of her teams developed the first ever device driver for an SD card. Since that driver was later rolled into the Windows operating system, you have almost certainly used software she worked on! After leaving the world of software, she started a company called Moving Forward to help families get through life transitions after losing a family member. She called it - project management for human beings. After passing the torch of Moving Forward, Katie moved on to teaching public speaking and humor full time. She loves showing how even a naturally quiet, serious person can make their message memorable using humor, with no personality transplant required.

Master Your Future
Apr. 17, 2023 6:40 p.m.
Rajiv Nagaich is an elder law attorney, international bestselling author, host of two PBS shows, and Fellow at the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. His mission is to change the way America thinks of, plans for, and navigates through retirement. Why? Because he saw his father in law fall ill, end up in a nursing home, and lose all his assets to nursing home costs. This is not what Rajiv thinks the future of any hard-working American should be. Motivated to find a solution to help consumers avoid becoming the next Bill Wallace, his father-in-law, Rajiv has developed a revolutionary retirement planning system that allows consumers to pull together every facet of their retirement life so they can rest assured that as they age they do not have to worry about being thrown into a care facility against their wishes, watch their loved ones become unpaid care givers in the process, or lose their retirement nest egg to nursing homes or care agencies.
Rajiv has practiced elder law for over 22 years as a lawyer at Life Point Law, and is the CEO of Aging Options. During his time he has served over 8,000 clients who have adopted his unique planning methodology, which you are about to hear. You can read more about him on his website (www.agingoptions.com).

Honoring high school educators for outstanding service
May 15, 2023 6:40 p.m.
Rotary's Outstanding Educator for 2023 is Mr. Carl "C.J." Green. He teaches Career &Technical Education business and marketing courses at Lake Washington High School, and is the school's Black Student Union advisor. He co-leads the LWHS Racial Equity Team and is a strong advocate for, and coach of, the DECA student leadership program. Mr. Green also coaches football.
Principal Christine Bell says that, "Aside from his leadership in these areas, what stands out about Mr. Green is his thoughtful and reflective nature. He listens carefully, particularly to students, and is a leader on our staff. You might find him supervising concessions so that his clubs can earn funds for trips, managing our student store, or teaching students how to plan for and run their own businesses."
She notes, "As a leader in our community, Mr. Green and his Black Student Union visited Audubon Elementary in February. They led an assembly and asked students to consider what power students have to create a more just and equitable future. They created positive connections with Kirkland youth that will benefit our future student leaders."
The Rotary Club of Kirkland is pleased to present C.J. Green its Outstanding Educator Award for 2023.
