The Rotary Club of Kirkland held a meeting at The Woodmark Hotel on June 28, 2021.
President James Nevers rang the bell at 6:30 p.m., calling the club transition meeting to order.
Steve Shinstrom led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Attending were George Anderson, Bob Auslander, Gail Auslander, Dan Bartel, Scott Becker, Rich Bergdahl, Gary Cohn, Terry Cole, David DeBois, Donald Dicks, Jim Feek, Alan Hoviland, Jim Meniketti, Amy Mutal, David Mutal, James Nevers, Kristin Olson, Rick Ostrander, Joanne Primavera, John Pruitt, Steve Shinstrom, Patti Smith, Bill Taylor, Brian Tucker, Alice Volpe, Rick Walter, and John Woodbery.
During the annual transition dinner, Scott Becker announced that Google has stepped forward as a new, Platinum sponsor of the Rotary Club of Kirkland Great Puget Sound Duck Dash for 2021. This was followed later in the week by a Platinum level commitment from EvergreenHealth. The Duck Dash proceeds comprise the major fund raising conducted by the club, and support a broad array of community investments such as scholarships, warm coats, and food and housing support for needy local families. Many, many thanks to this year's major sponsors at each giving level:
During July, the Rotary Club of Kirkland's will host and hear from several beverage industry leaders, and tasting will be included in one or more of the programs! Dr. Jeff Peterson will entertain Rotarians with the history of cider production around the world, an overview of how cider is produced, and insights gained through a personal journey in the cider business. Wine making consultant Bob Betz will offer his perspective of how and why the wine industry has exploded, where we are now, and the opportunities and challenges of the future.
Rotarians' dues statement for the new Rotary year will be published during the first week of July, and are due by July 31. There are no significant differences in statements this year. The format and how Rotarians will be able to pay online remains the same as last year. There are some small adjustments in dues amounts led by increases in district and national charges.
Last year, the club implemented the online dues and billing module that is built into the ClubRunner system. That means dues statements will be produced again this year by the ClubRunner system and sent to members in an email, similar to how Rotarians receive meeting announcements and the club's bulletin, the Spokesman.
