The Rotary Club of Kirkland held its regular weekly meeting online on July 27, 2020.

Attending were James Nevers, Dave Aubry, Margie Glenn, Gary Cohn, Dan Bartel, Joanne Primavera, Kristin Olson, Rick Ostrander, Rich Bergdahl, Patti Smith, Rick Walter, Don Dicks, Amy & Dave Mutal, John Woodbery, George Anderson, Stefan Landvogt, Steve Shinstrom, Dave DeBois, Brandon Honcoop, Mike Hunter, Joe Getzendanner, Russ & Tricia Stromberg, and Elizabeth Rusnak.  Let me know if I missed anyone.

Just a quick reminder, Rotarians, that July is dues month in our Rotary world.  By now, it’s likely all of the Kirkland members know the club implemented the online dues and billing module that now is built into our ClubRunner system.  Members received on July 1 the new dues statements produced by the ClubRunner system and sent to members’ preferred email on file in ClubRunner.  As of July 29, 28 of the club’s 54 active members, or 52%, have paid their annual dues.  This is a change of one person from the prior week’s report.  Second invoices will be sent on August 1 to members with balances due.

Kirkland Rotarian Darcia Tudor is assembling an all-star line-up for the August program series, The Legacy of Racism in America.  The experts scheduled to speak to the club on four successive Mondays are: August 10, Scott Miller, an environmental journalist, on white privilege; on August 17, Joshua Cooper, vice president of PriceWaterhousCoopers, LLC, on LGBTQD equity and inclusion; on August 24, Joanna Roth and Jamie Clausen, attorneys and family mediators, on implicit bias; and on August 32, Linda Byron, former KING 5 television reporter, on equity in policing and what it means to “defund” the police.  Additional presenters may be added to the series, and Darcia will serve as the moderator during the August presentations.  Look for more details soon on the Rotary Club of Kirkland website.  This is a series not to be missed, Rotarians.

The club’s International Committee met this week under the leadership of Joanne Primavera, and welcomed two guests from the Rotary Club of Donaris Galati, Romania.  The Donaris Galati club members are raising funds for the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and would like Kirkland to partner with them.  The Romanian club has completed two projects and is hoping to submit a Global Grant for more equipment for NICU.
