The Rotary Club of Kirkland held a virtual meeting via Zoom on June 10, 2024.

President Gary Cohn called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m.

President Gary led us in the pledge. Jocelyn Ellison recited the Four-Way Test.

Leadership Transition Dinner June 17
The Rotary Club of Kirkland's annual Leadership Transition Dinner and Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, June 17, 2024, and is to be held at Kirkland's St. John's Episcopal Church in Marsh Hall. Cost for attendees is $60. This year there are four entree choices (maple-balsamic glazed chicken, malbec flat-iron steak medallions, char-grilled salmon,  and stuffed zucchini boats), and cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and several dessert options are planned. Past and present Rotarians may REGISTER for the even on the club's website.
 
The deadline for registering is extended to 3:00 p.m. on WednesdayJune 12. An invitation email from President Gary Cohn, who is the host for this year's annual Rotary event, was sent to present and past members and included the four dinner options. As is traditional, past presidents of the club are encouraged to join the membership for the dinner and the passing-of-the-gavel ceremony. Join your fellow Rotarians and past Rotarians to celebrate nearly nine decades of leadership in service to the Kirkland community and the world through Rotary.
Scholarship Spotlight: Noah Aguirre
As a high school senior, Noah Aguirre earned a 3.89 GPA and actively participates in several clubs such as the National Honor Society, and LINK Crew, a leadership and volunteering-oriented group that holds high school orientation for incoming students.  Additionally, he is the news director of KANG TV News, an award-winning weekly high school broadcast.  Noah is passionate about video production and journalism, and his work has been nominated in film festivals and competitions, one a regional nomination across the northwest.  He earned a position at George Mason University’s Washington Journalism and Media Conference in Washington D.C. due to his contributions to KANG TV News and his academic performance.

Rotary's Four-Way Test
Community Service at Hero House
Rotary Club of Kirkland's community service committee is gathering to spread mulch at the Hero House NW Bellevue Clubhouse at 12838 SE 40th Place, Bellevue (Factoria) on Thursday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
 
The club obtained a very good price on mulch and Pacific Topsoil will deliver 15 yards of it to the site on Tuesday, June 11. Rotarians are welcome to come by at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 13 for a couple of hours. Please bring a shovel, and the team needs at least one additional wheelbarrow from a volunteer ... more wheelbarrows would be helpful. If you can be there to help, please register through the event (click HERE) on the club's Calendar.
Reminder: Dues Payments Due June 30
Rotary dues statements were sent to active members on June 1, 2024.  Payments are due by Sunday, June 30, 2024.  Reminder statements will be mailed on June 15 and June 25 to all Rotarians with outstanding accounts.  As of Monday, June 10, 29% of club members had paid their dues.  Please remember that nonpayment of dues jeopardizes membership in the Rotary club.
 
Dues may be paid using the online Dues & Billing System link in the invoice emailed on June 1.  The link is embedded in the bold words "Pay Now" in the invoice.  Online payment requires a credit or debit card. Members may also pay by check through the U.S. Mail, and reach the treasurer by June 30.  (If a member is not paying via the online Dues & Billing System, he or she should have a check or cash in the treasurer’s hands by Friday, June 28.)
Club Attendance Comparison First Quarter 2024
The club held eight meetings during the months of January, February, and March 2024. Due to federal holidays and the three-per-month plan, there was only one regular Monday night meeting in each of January and February. There were three regular meetings in March. There was a Valentine Day event in February, and there were two special meetings for the rummage sale, one each in February and March.

Bulletin Readership January-March 2024
Club members' readership of The Spokesman during the first quarter of calendar year 2024 slid substantially compared to the first quarter of the prior year, falling off particularly in March.
 
Readership in the first quarter of 2023 was 75%, whereas the rate dropped to 58% in the same period this year.  A bulletin is "read" when the email containing it is opened by the recipient.  During the first quarter of this year, the number of members receiving bulletins rose from 37 to 40.
