President Amy Mutal rang the bell at 6:15 p.m., calling the club meeting to order.  Most of the power at the hotel was out, as well as the internet, so no one had to struggle to get us connected.

Announcements, Club Business, Committee Reports:

Kirkland Rotary Foundation President John Pruitt reported that we had a very successful Gala and Auction on Saturday.  He called on Dave Aubry to report on set-up, operations, and take-down.  Dave recounted that thanks to board members coming early to assist with set-up, and then helping during and after the event, everything went smoothly.  Dave also thanked Jim Meniketti for managing and accurately recording all the financial transactions during the event.

Jefferson House Open House Tomorrow!

This is a reminder that the Jefferson House Memory Care Director of Community Relations Olivia Koelsch invited Rotarians to join the Jefferson House team for their “Bratwurst and Beer!” open house TOMORROW, Friday, October 28, 2022 from Noon to 3:00 p.m. If you would like to join the fun, please RSVP by emailing Olivia or calling 425-492-0944.
Two Board Positions Open
During the month of August, club secretary Margie Glenn announced she was stepping down from the club secretary position effective September 1, citing significantly increased travel plans for the year including spending the bulk of the winter in Scottsdale, Arizona. On September 20, Mike Hunter stepped down from the club's vocational service chair position concurrently with his resignation from the club. In the interim, Dave Aubry, Jocelyn Ellison, and Gary Cohn are handling elements of the secretary duties, and Gary is handling the student of the month and scholarship programs.

These positions are open for all members to consider serving the club. If you are interested in serving as the club's secretary or chairing the vocational service committee, please contact club president Amy Mutal by phone, by email, or in person to express your interest. Club officers are elected by the membership, typically after being included in a slate of officers presented by the board of directors. Successors to Margie and Mike should be prepared to attend club and board meetings in order to take and report the minutes, and conduct and report on the work of the committee, respectively.
Rotary's Four-Way Test
Are You Receiving the District Newsletter?
Every member of the Rotary Club of Kirkland with an email account should be receiving District 5030's newsletter. During the club meeting this week, several members noted they are not receiving the district's newsletter. On October 18, the email address in every active club member's District 5030 profile was verified against the member's preferred email in ClubRunner. Emails that did not match were revised to the preferred email in ClubRunner.

In addition, any member's profile that displayed a "suspense" message due to emails from District not reaching the member, were cleared once the email was updated. This "suspense" protocol is essentially the same as ClubRunner's protocol: If your email account rejects the email as spam or the email bounces, the system suspends sending them until a manual correction is made.

October Board Meeting Highlights
The club’s board of directors met on Thursday, October 20, at President Amy Mutal's office. Highlights included discussion of recent departures from the club's membership, and the challenge presented by the accommodations at the Courtyard by Marriott. Directors reviewed the results of the SurveyMonkey questionnaire on holiday party preferences. Directors engaged in further discussion of the treasurer's proposed Rotary Budget for 2022-2023, and another review and then approval of budget requests presented in August by the chairs of the community service and vocational service committees.
