The Rotary Club of Kirkland held a meeting both online and at The Woodmark Hotel on June 21, 2021.

President James Nevers rang the bell at 6:30 p.m.

Gary Cohn led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Attending were George Anderson, Gary Cohn, David DeBois, Donald Dicks, (online), Brandon Honcoop, Mike Hunter, Jim Meniketti, James Nevers, Kristin Olson, Rick Ostrander, Joanne Primavera, John Pruitt, Steve Shinstrom, and John Woodbery.

The Great Puget Sound Duck Dash is upon us, Rotarians. Head Duck Amy Mutal announced the following key dates and events for Duck Dash volunteer sign-ups:

Scholarship Highlight: Soniyah Boun
Juanita High School senior Soniyah Boun is dedicated to aiding marginalized groups to have proper representation in both her field of study and social issues impacting underrepresented minorities daily. Her determination to push for reform and change is prevalent through her participation in the "Justice Education Project", a government recognized non-profit organization devoted to advocacy for legal reform in the U.S. Growing past prior life obstacles, Soniyah has developed a passion for advocacy and the push of better representation of the diverse cultures and financial situations prominent through America.

Scholarship Spotlight: Zainab Al Zoubaidi
Zainab Al Zoubaidi believes that education is important for everyone, and receiving enough support makes the education journey possible for so many. From Zainab’s personal experience in a low-income family, she knows families like hers can never afford college payments on their own. She says receiving financial aid to pay course tuition was the magic ingredient that prompted her to decide to study. She says the family still struggles to earn enough money to support her kids and to meet the family’s basic needs, so the Rotary scholarships can make is possible for the family to pay for books, gas for the car, child care, and other necessities.
