Student of the Month Volunteers Needed
The Rotary Club of Kirkland Student of the Month program is a time-honored tradition aimed at recognizing and honoring outstanding students at two local high schools, Juanita and Lake Washington.  But the program requires volunteer time to function.  To launch the program this year, volunteers are needed!!  The vocational service committee needs a lead for the Juanita interviews, and both interview teams need a few more volunteers.  If you are willing to serve on a Student of the Month interview team, please email or call our vocational service chair, Gary Cohn, at your earliest opportunity.  You may also email or call the Lake Washington team lead, Mike Hunter.  Please help us keep this wonderful program alive and well!

November Speakers All About Politics
During November, Rotarians will be treated to the insights four seasoned professionals deeply involved in politics, elections, and government history on several levels.  The Politics & Elections Series includes: on November 2, election eve, Karen Waters, president of Strategies 360, a major political consulting firm in the region; on November 9, Jerry Cornfield, long-time political reporter for The Daily Herald (the parent paper to our Kirkland Reporter); on November 16, Ben Anderstone, voter behavior researcher and political analyst regularly featured on Crosscut, and on November 23, Dr. Glennys Young, a Russia and Soviet Union historian and chair of the University of Washington's History Department and professor in the Jackson School of International Studies.  For topic details and speaker background use the club website's Speakers tab.
December Program Sneak Peak
Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Armed Forces Day, and Pearl Harbor Day all recognize the sacrifices of so many who have known service in the United States military.  During December, Rotarians will enjoy presentations by organizers of Puget Sound Honor Flights that honor veterans of World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam wars.  A few of our living WWII vets have been invited to join the meeting.  Programs will also include guests who are serving veterans in need of post-service support, such as Everyone for Veterans.
