August Series on Animal Services
The August program series, Furry Friends, highlights several animal service providers that render an array of support to the Kirkland community. On August 2, Officer Dan Hopkins and Police Dog Leo, who comprise the Kirkland Police Department K-9 team, provided a look at K-9 history, described training program highlights and safety provisions, and told a few interesting case stories. On August 9, Robert Leach will introduce Pickles Playland, a canine care and training facility newly relocated to Kirkland’s Carillon Point. Members will learn about Pickles’ approach to training, and how current lifestyles of customers shape this market and the training the Pickles team provides. On August 16, Bonnie VeVea will describe why group of volunteers formed MEOW Cat Rescue, and how in their nearly 25-year history they’ve come to place 800 – 1,000 animals a year. Thanks to Dave DeBois for designing this speaker series.
Zoom Virtual Meeting Access Paused
During the past year and half, in response to the social distancing essential to stop the spread of COVID-19, the club has been using Zoom to hold virtual meetings in lieu of in-person meetings at The Woodmark Hotel. When the club resumed in-person meetings last month, the Zoom option was maintained for those who preferred not to attend in-person. The Zoom option has been used by only one or two people at a few meetings, and no one has used Zoom for the last two meetings. As a result, the Zoom option has been placed on "pause" until the club transitions out of the summer months. If you have any questions about virtual attendance, please contact club president Dave DeBois.
Rotary mourns the loss of our dear friend Gail Auslander, who passed away the morning of August 2.
