The Rotary Club of Kirkland held a virtual meeting via Zoom on April 8, 2024.

President Gary Cohn called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m.

Amy Mutal led us in the pledge. Jocelyn Ellison recited the Rotary Four-Way Test.

Attending were Rich Bergdahl, Michelle Cazeau, Gary Cohn, Sue Cohn, Donald Dicks, Sandy Ekins (Honorary), Jocelyn Ellison, Doug Evanson, Monica Fratita, Brandon Honcoop, Isabelle Kalisa, Jim Meniketti, Amy Mutal, Rick Ostrander, Peter Peaquin, Steve Shinstrom, Patti Smith, John Storbeck, and Rick Walter.

Visiting Rotarians:

Several Rotarians from other clubs were guests this evening. Beth Wandia is a member of the Rotary Club of Mombasa Downtown in Kenya, is visiting Kirkland for a few months, and will try to make an in-person meeting before returning to Kenya later in May. Anisha Joshi is a member of the Rotary Club of Nyatapola (Nepal & Bhutan) and plans a move to Kirkland with her family. Madan Mohan Kumar, Srivardhan Ganta (president), Namburi Venkata Raju (president-elect), and Suren Poruri (advisor) are members of the Rotary Club of Global Wizards in Hyderabad, India. Madan will be in the Kirkland area soon, called in from Chicago and invited fellow Rotarians from his club (calling in from India) to join the meeting for a virtual club flag exchange. (We will effect the actual flag exchange at a later date.)

Other guest of the club this evening were Nancy Khoury, a Banner Bank employee and prospective Rotarian who volunteered extensively at the first rummage sale, and Adam Li, a recent addition to the Kirkland area who is looking for an avenue of service to the community and has begun the application process for membership in the club.

One or two more volunteers are needed today, Tuesday, July 9, beginning at 1:30 p.m. to inventory the supplies remaining from the 2023 Great Kirkland Rotary Rummage Sale. Acting Steering Committee Chair Dave DeBois is leading the effort at the Public Storage facility at 12249 NE 124th Street, Kirkland. Call Dave directly to volunteer your time for this short-duration effort. Some of the club members have already volunteered, and a few more hands will be welcome.

Rotarians Dave DeBois and Michelle Cazeau announced that Banner Bank has stepped forward again this year as a major Platinum sponsor of the Rotary Club of Kirkland's Great Kirkland Rotary Rummage Sale for 2024. The Lee Johnson Auto Family has also committed again a Platinum level sponsorship for 2024. The Great Kirkland Rotary Rummage Sale proceeds comprise the major fundraising activity conducted by the club, and the funds support a broad array of community investments such as scholarships, warm coats, and food and housing support for needy local families.
