Holiday Gift Shopping a Success!
What do you get when you add together the Rotary Club of Kirkland, the Christmas season, and Fred Meyer?

You get holiday gifts for fifteen Kirkland families, which includes over 70 children. Rotary Club of Kirkland members spent a Saturday morning shopping at Fred Meyer for these families and then held their annual wrapping part on December 19. This timing allows club members to deliver gifts to the families on the Tuesday before Christmas.

After the bows and ribbons were attached, the club members and their guests sat down for the annual Rotary Club of Kirkland Holiday Party dinner. Then the Rotarians drove the surprise holiday gift bundles to each of the homes to bring good cheer to their Kirkland neighbors.
Rotary's 2023 Scholarships Posted
Rotarians, our club's 2023 scholarship program has launched.  Our vocational service committee will gratefully accept further donations of scholarship funds, and volunteers for scholarship applicant interviews!  For 2023, the club’s allocation has been boosted to $15,000.  The board of directors approved six scholarships of $2,500 for this year.  In addition, we carry over one unclaimed scholarship from last year's awards, and have commitments for four additional, "specialty" scholarships this year, bringing our program total to $28,000.  The largest scholarship this year is the business and accounting scholarship at $5,500 co-sponsored by Hutchison & Walter and Rick Walter.  If you’re willing to sponsor a scholarship this year, or you can corral a scholarship donation from someone in our community, please get in touch with Gary Cohn as soon as practical.

Meet the January Students of the Month
The Rotary Club of Kirkland Student of the Month program continues in January with four student of the month, three for the month and one rescheduled from November.

Ally Thompson met club members on Monday, January 9. Ally describes herself as a hardworking, intelligent woman who values community service and sharing information to expand her opinions and knowledge of things that are interesting to her. Her high priority goals include graduating from high school and getting a part time office job. One of Ally’s major accomplishments is returning to high school for a fifth year after missing many months, and maintaining her above-average GPA and relationship with my community despite great challenges. She says her most important community involvement is speaking to homeless youth and women at shelters at which she volunteers, which provides her insight on their lives, and the capacity to see life from a different perspective.
