The Rotary Club of Kirkland held an in-person meeting Monday, January 5, 2026, at our new location, Prosecco Restaurant in Kirkland.
Former Club President Joanne Primavera acted as presiding officer for the meeting.
Before opening the meeting, we discussed whether we should continue with the Pledge of Allegiance at our meetings. After some discussion we decided to substitute the 4-Way Test at least for a while.
Joanne rang the bell at 6:20 p.m. after which we recited the 4-Way Test. Joanne also reminded us to start wearing our Rotary pins daily.
Members Attending: David Aubry, Cody Baker, Roger Clarke, Susan Cohn, Don Dicks, Jocelyn Ellison, Rashmi Garimella, Isabelle Kalisa, Chris Kelly-Storbeck, Shane Xinlang Li, Jim Meniketti, Rick Ostrander, Rémy Pairault, Joanne Primavera, Angela Pritchett, John Pruitt, Daniel Sada Caraveo, John Storbeck, Wendy Yang
The wife of our perennial visiting Rotarian, Dick Carlson, suffered a severe stroke a few months ago, and is making remarkable progress on the road to recovery.
David Aubry introduced his guest, wife Anna, who is known to many club members.
John Storbeck asked for input on publicizing the Auction and Gala in September. He circulated a draft flyer created by Angela & Remy to solicit business and community sponsorship and support for the event. Communicate any suggestions you have about the flyer to John; he believes we should have suggested levels of support, such Silver, Gold, Platinum, etc. Also contact him with ideas of businesses who might be potential sponsors of the event. He probably would also appreciate assistance when the time comes to distribute the flyers.
Due to various holidays, we will have very few club meetings in January/February. There will be a club social at Daniel Sada’s house next Monday, January 12. Look for an email. He is short on chairs, so bring a couple with you if you can.
It was announced that club members contributed about $1000 for flood relief; it was matched by the Duvall Club.
Student of the Month should begin in February.
We collectively thanked everyone who participated in the Holiday Shopping and Gift Wrapping, and Gala in December. Special thanks went to Cody Baker and his partner Katie who together shopped for/with FIVE different families and wrapped the gifts.
Since we had no speaker, and many newer members do not know her, Joanne gave a recapitulation of her classification talk. She told us about growing up on Whidbey Island, something about her early education, her college education at both Western Washington and at University of Washington, and a good deal about her long professional career. She worked for several years as a teacher, school administrator, and a Family Law Attorney dealing in guardianship law. She worked to assist folks in navigating the legal system. To obtain her law degree, she attended law school at UPS at night. Her last legal case was in 2017.
