Grace Lloyd has lived in Kirkland for 16 years, attended Juanita Elementary School and Finn Hill Middle School, and now is graduating from Juanita High School. Grace says she loves performing and has earned multiple performance awards for Thespy's, the school's annual drama competition. She recently finished a run of Into the Woods at Juanita High, staring as the Witch. In fall of 2022, Grace will be attending Brigham Young University, for which she excited! After her first year of college, she wants to serve a religious mission. Once she returns, she will decide on her major, and wants to study either Music Dance Theater or East Asian Languages. She likes all languages, but is especially fascinated by East Asian languages.
Monique Loos is a senior at Juanita High School, and also a Running Start student at Lake Washington Institute of Technology. She is working toward an Associate of Arts degree in Business while earning her high school diploma. Monique has earned a few accomplishments and awards throughout her high school career: honors in Algebra 2 in 2020-2021, the dean's list at LWIT, a safe ambassador at Juanita High School for two years, captain of the girls' varsity golf team, and recognized by the Rotary Club of Kirkland as a Rotary Student of the Month in November 2021. Monique also earned numerous hours of community service; she enjoys giving back to the community through volunteer work and community service, and as a life-long Girl Scout earned over 200 badges through service work.
The club’s board of directors met on Thursday, June 16, at Rich Bergdahl's office. Highlights included another discussion of a budget draft for 2022-2023 Rotary year, increasing the amount of scholarship awards, approaches to building the club's membership, and supporting the assignments of the 2022-2023 board. The treasurer’s report was provided in written form, including updates on revenue, expenses, and a revised proposal to begin drawing down charitable funds through increased donations now that the pandemic has receded, and fund raising and community service are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels. Discussion of funding priorities is scheduled for an upcoming club assembly mid-August.
