The Rotary Club of Kirkland held a meeting both online and at The Woodmark Hotel on June 7, 2021!

Attendance was recorded as before the shift to the all-online meeting format – by members signing in.

President James Nevers rang the bell at 6:30 p.m.

Meet the 2021 Outstanding Educators
The Rotary Club of Kirkland is proud to announce three recipients of the club’s Outstanding Educator Award for 2021. Danielle MacDonald is a counselor at Rose Hill Middle School, Sara Ward is an English Language teacher at Kirkland Middle School, and Virginia Reinert is a Language Arts, Social Studies, and Quest teacher at Kamiakin Middle School. Each outstanding educator was nominated by her principal for this year's Rotary honors. Join the honorees and school representatives next week at the Rotary Club of Kirkland June 14 meeting at The Woodmark Hotel.
Scholarship Spotlight: Angelyiah Lim
Angelyiah Lim is a hardworking Juanita High School senior who always strives to do her best. In her personal life, Angelyiah enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, reading books, writing music, and working out. At school, she actively volunteers and makes an effort to stay connected with her classmates and teachers. She is the co-founder of the Awareness for Homelessness club chapter, which has raised thousands of dollars and donated hundreds of sanitary kits to local homeless shelters; the president of the National Honor Society; a swim captain for the girls’ team; and a Safe School Ambassador.

Scholarship Spotlight: Jessica Fuentes-Cerdas 
As a daughter of Costa Rican immigrants, Jessica Fuentes-Cerdas hopes to be the first in her family to graduate from high school and pursue further and higher education. Through different volunteer work such as translating, elderly assistance, and leadership involvement in the youth group of my church, Jessica says she has had the privilege of engaging with people from diverse age ranges, cultures, and backgrounds. This in turn has allowed her to gain a greater understanding of the importance of inclusion, open-mindedness, accommodating others, and ensuring everyone feels welcome.

Scholarship Spotlight: Isabel Grizzard
Isabel Grizzard is both a senior at Juanita High School and a part-time Running Start Student at Cascadia Community College. Throughout high school, she has demonstrated strong academic performance, passing most of her classes with A’s and B’s, and earning a 4.0 GPA. Isabel is proud to be a part of the extracurricular activities offered at her school, including drama club and the literary magazine club. During her summers, Isabel enjoys volunteering to teach children about the Word of God at her local Catholic church.

May Board Meeting Highlights
The club’s board of directors met on Thursday, May 27.  Highlights included another update on progress of plans for the Duck Dash in September; updates on the move to "hybrid" meetings combining Zoom access and in-person attendance at The Woodmark Hotel beginning June 7, and plans for the club leadership transition dinner on June 28.
