The Rotary Club of Kirkland held a meeting online on January 25, 2021.
Attending were Dave Aubry, Dave DeBois, George Anderson, Joanne Primavera, Gary Cohn, Bill Taylor, Margie Glenn, Steve Shinstrom, John Pruitt, Rich Bergdahl, Rick Ostrander, John Woodbery, Brian Tucker, Scott Becker, Jim Meniketti, Rick Walter. Let me know if I missed anyone.
President-Elect Dave DeBois started the meeting at 6:22 p.m. We were a bit late due to technical difficulties getting Zoom set up.
During February, our Rotary Club of Kirkland members will have the pleasure of meeting two more students of the month from Lake Washington School District high schools. On February 1, the club's guest will be Jessica Laing, a senior at Lake Washington High School. On February 8, the club's guest will be Isabel Grizzard, a senior at Juanita High School. Please plan on joining their hosts, Mike Hunter and James Nevers, respectively, to welcome these young people to the club.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day the Rotary Club of Kirkland is again holding a Sweetheart Night! This event will be similar to what we did last year to celebrate Valentine's Day together! Bring your significant other to our meeting on February 22! Send in photos of the two of you for the club to share during the Valentine's Day meeting, and prepare a story to share with everyone! Send photos to Bella Chaffey at bellachaffey@windermere.com. Bella will get the photos arranged in a slideshow for the evening!
Rotarians, it’s time to get the 2020-21 scholarship program launched. Our vocational service committee needs your help with scholarship funds, and with scholarship applicant interviews!
Last year, individual Rotarians better than matched the club’s $10,000 scholarship allocation to boost our scholarship program over $20,000. With the club’s budget cut for this year (the club’s allocation is $7,000 for 2020-21), we need to gather a few more individual donations if we are to meet or exceed last year’s program. If you’re willing to sponsor a scholarship this year, or you can corral a scholarship donation from someone in our community, please get in touch with Gary Cohn as soon as practical. (And thank you to Rotarians who have already committed to scholarship sponsorships again this year!)
Is your membership photo current? Can new members recognize you from your photo? Is your membership profile up-to-date? Hopefully we will be vaccinate soon, herd immunity will be achieved, and once again we’ll be able to gather in person for meetings. As we plan for a membership surge post-COVID, let’s ensure new Rotarians can recognize us in the Club Photo Directory. If your photo isn’t an easily recognizable “headshot” as the photographers say, we’ll crop it for you! If your photo isn’t current, we'll upload a new one for you! All member profile street addresses will be updated to USPS standards by the end of February, so please check yours to make sure it is (or they are) correct. Need assistance? Contact Gary Cohn. Happy 2021!
The club’s board of directors met on the January 21 to conduct a variety of club business. Highlights included the continuing financial health of the club, despite the inability to mount an annual fund-raiser; payments of dues and fees to the state and Rotary's district and international components; development of the new officer team for 2021-22; approaching the Duck Dash in the coming year; and updates on the student of the month, scholarship, and outstanding teacher programs. Rotarians may view this month’s board meeting minutes and those of prior meetings on the Board Minutes page, which requires a log-in. A link also may be found at the bottom of the Spokesman.
Rotarians, enjoy this thank you note from recent Rotary Student of the Month Claire Charvet.
