The Rotary Club of Kirkland held an in-person meeting on Monday, July 7, 2025 at the Kirkland Eagles Club. The Eagles kitchen was out of order, so thanks to Rick Walter who made a food run, we were able to have burgers, salads, and wings. Mr. Walter paid for the food himself, so please make sure you give him $10 for your meal.
The meeting was called to order by President Kate Koslosky at 6:18 p.m. She then led us in the Pledge.
Attendees: David Aubry, Cody Baker, Gary Cohn, Sue Cohn, Terry Cole, Jocelyn Ellison, Rashmi Garimella, Isabelle Kalisa, Chris Kelly-Storbeck, Kate Koslosky, Rémy Pairault, Joanne Primavera, Angela Pritchett, John Storbeck, and Rick Walter.
Members of the Rotary Club of Kirkland gave a part of their day on the 4th of July to volunteer for the city of Kirkland's parade and celebration. Rotary Club of Kirkland President Kate Koslosky, Rotarian Dr. Sue Cohn, Rotarian Dr. Joanne Primavera and Community Service Chair Rick Walter had the morning shift, provided support for the parade, kept things moving in an orderly fashion, and provided directions. Program Chair John Storbeck and spouse Rotarian Chris Kelly-Storbeck took the later shift and helped out with keeping the parade going and helping close it down when finished. Rick Walter and Rotarian Brett Johnson helped the dozens of veterans get signed up, enjoy food and drink, receive a boutonniere and name tag, and then be assigned to one of a hand full of vehicles that Brett provided from Lee Johnson Chevrolet to transport these wonderful servicemen and women down the parade route so that they could be honored. The members of Rotary Club of Kirkland answered the call and helped make the parade and celebration a success.
During the regular meeting of November 4, 2024, 15 member attended and a majority voted in favor of approval of revisions to Articles 5 and 8 of the club's Bylaws. The revisions change the second Monday meeting of each month from a virtual meeting to a social, rename the rummage sale committee the fundraising committee, require a committee member to attend a board meeting if the chair is to be absent, and require every club member to select a committee for service by August 15, or be appointed to a committee by the club's president. The updated Rotary Club of Kirkland Bylaws are posted to the Documents section of ClubRunner.
On July 21, 2025 the new board executive leadership plans a club assembly to engage club members in a club priority setting discussion. The new board president, president-elect, and vice president held a strategy meeting after the start of this calendar year and identified and agreed on a number significant issues, as detailed in the board-approved April 2025 Board Meeting Minutes, that are high priorities for the club:
Rebuilding the club’s membership.
Holding attractive service events and providing community service volunteer opportunities.
Publicity about the club’s community service accomplishments.
Establishing a goal for 2025-2026 of 40 members who are engaged in the club’s work, and for growth in subsequent years.
Creation of a better environment for members, including volunteer opportunities, quality meetings, and special events.
Establishment of a different meeting structure: three meetings per month with specific themes: one meeting for service, one meeting for fellowship, and one meeting for fun, and virtual meetings and Zoom options for in-person meetings would be dropped; they concluded that traditional Rotary meetings are not conducive to membership growth.
Committee members will be expected to attend board meetings if the committee chair cannot, irrespective of the ability to vote on board action items.
Committee chairs will serve two years, with the second year to include a co-chair in preparation for that co-chair to assume chair duties the following year.
Our new Rotary year brings warm greetings to another new member, and fond farewells to those who are leaving the club. Eight of the club's number are leaving membership for retirement, to tend to families and business, or to move to another club. The club bids farewell and following seas to friends who will not continue with us as we embark upon 2025-2026:
♦ Pete Anderson ♦ Scott Becker ♦ Michelle Cazeau ♦ Doug Evanson ♦ James Feek ♦ Kristin Olson ♦ Patti Smith ♦ Alice Volpe
