Rotary Club of Kirkland

Meeting of the 25th of April, 2011:

Scholarship Night!

President Pat Dye opened the meeting and after the Pledge of Allegiance, visiting Rotarians Heidi Sheppard and Dave Woodall were introduced.  Other visitors included spouse Pam Going, and Chris Rusnak and Gail Auslander. In addition, we had our foreign exchange student Jason in attendance and to photographer Bob Gassen from Humanature Photography for photos during the event.  Also, prior Kirkland Rotarian and back for another visit was Vicki Cooley.

Announcements were shortened due to the program but everyone was reminded that next week, our meeting will be at the Wild Rover Pub as we kick off the Duck Dash.

Don Dicks welcomed Elizabeth Rusnak as the newest Paul Harris Fellow.

The evening started out with Jim Going and Shirley Metcalf (John Overleese was unable to attend) discussing the details of Scholarship Night and also giving a special thanks to Bob Auslander for his (actually Gail’s) generosity in making a large enough donation to expand the scholarships by two.

Rotarian Rachel Knight introduced Tessa Lingle from Cascadia Community College

Rotarian Pat Dye introduced Devan Freebairn from the International Community School

Rotarian Rich Bergdahl introduced Destry Seiler of Junita High School

The CHUCK O. MORGAN Scholarship was presented to Stephanie King by Rotarian Brian Tucker

Rotarian and comedian David DeBois had the pleasure to introduce Nicole Herron from Lake Washington Technical Academy – who assisted in the comedy act.

Rachel Knight had the honor of introducing Kim Mitchell and Renee Vicars from Lake Washington Technical College.

The evenings’ event was wrapped up with a couple of additional announcements by Jim Going – first, that Elizabeth Claypool who was a scholarship recipient from Lake Washington High School was unable to attend the ceremonies. Secondly, that Shirley Metcalf who did such a wonderful job this year and in years past has resigned her position in anticipation of moving to Bend Oregon. The Chief – Rotarian Eric Olsen has volunteered to fill her shoes. And finally, Jim told everyone to come see him if they want their scholarship money and he would give them the low down.

With that, President Pat adjourned the meeting.

Special thanks to Rick Walter for subbing as scribe at the last minute.  It is really appreciated.
