Bob Webb started the meeting at 6:40pm and Dan Bartel led us in the flag salute.

Announcement by Bill Woods: a long time Rotarian has passed away that a number in the Club remembered; Rory Procter - he was with the Air Force in WWII and participated in the last dog fight when the Japanese were sending up 16 year old boys.

 

Kirkland Foundation report by John Woodbery. He listed the following recipients:

  • $9,700 to organization in Ghana to build a community kitchen
  • $10,000 to Northwest Harvest for baby milk for needy women
  • $4,500 to John Muir Elementary for clothing for needy children
  • $4,500 to Sibling House
  • $5,000 to Residence XII, a substance abuse treatment facility for women
  • $4,500 to Eastside Domestic Violence
  • $4,500 to Listen & TalkSchool for Deaf Children

 

Speaker: Patti Smith introduced the speaker, RJ McHatton, who is an author, filmmaker, and co-founder of Inventive Productions, which produces video biographies.  He is also the northwest coordinator of the Association of Personal Historians and has volunteered his company to conduct 100 complementary interviews of WWII vets for the Library of Congress.

 

RJ became interested in video as a young boy when he was charged with the task of recording the family holiday on a Super-8 video. He enjoys listening to the stories and preserving them for future generations.

 

He shared a number of organizations and websites that are available for personal and professional viewing of biographies and to conduct genealogical research.

RJ indicated that he would be happy to share his 124 questions that he asks his interviewees.

 

Bob Webb thanked RJ and asked that he sign a book to be donated to John Muir library.

The lucky ticket was drawn by David Hunnicutt but he missed guessing the number - better luck next time!
