Capital Projects Enhance Our Community

In addition to projects that address immediate human needs, Rotary’s vision includes improved communities for all of us.  Almost from the beginning, Kirkland Rotary has sought out and funded projects to make Kirkland more livable.

One of our first contributions was a donation of $1200 in 1944 to help purchase land for a recreational camp for the community.  Also early on, Kirkland Rotary assisted with the restoration of the Peter Kirk Building and with upgrading Kirkland’s Little League facility at Everest Park.

In 1988-1989, we supported the building of the Plaza of Champions and the Marina Park flag pole.  In other years, members organized and physically assisted with the building of the original swimming pool for the City of Kirkland. The Club helped with landscaping the Atrium at Lake Washington Technical College, and purchased the historical sign at Marina Park.

In 1990, a DARE van valued at $7500 was donated to the Kirkland Police department. .  Club members financially supported the capital campaign for the Boys and Girls Club, and purchased the stained glass window for the Teen Union Building.  In 1991 the Club provided the waterfront walkway for the handicapped at Juanita Bay Park.  The Club also supported the McLeod Fountain on Park Lane and helped to raise capital for the Kirkland Performance Center.

In 2005, (Rotary’s and Kirkland’s Centennial Year), in our biggest project to date, Kirkland Rotary was the sponsor and by far the largest contributor to the Picnic Pavilion in Everest Park. Most recently, Kirkland Rotary financed the arbor at Heritage Park with a gift of $34,500.

For the next three years, The Rotary Club of Kirkland has committed to assisting the Boys and Girls Club on Rose Hill in a significant building project that will create a teen-oriented facility within the existing building.
