Meeting of February 14, 2011 was called to order by President Pat Dye at 6:35 p.m. The flag salute was led by Jim Styner and President Dye thanked Doug Carter for being the greeter and Sue Greenfeld for scribing. President Dye indicated that the evening’s order would be changed due to speaker’s news deadline.

Program:  Patti Payne, Speaker, Puget Sound Business Journal

Chuck Brockway introduced the speaker Patti Payne by first discussing Valentine trivia, and then the speaker gave out a box of chocolate to the individual who named the closest date (1913) when Hallmark created the first Valentine greeting card.  Patti Payne, previously a member of the Kirkland Rotary Club, gave an entertaining talk about her time living in Montana and her entry into the world of media. Patti worked for more than 25 years in newspapers and radio primarily at KING, KIRO and KOMO.

Patti encouraged business leaders to “Get Your Story Out,” Be Creative,” “Put your Business on the Map,” “Think Big,” “Be Joyful,” “Determine Your Five Chief Assets,” “Select three people who have these assets who are successful,” and “Be an optimist, but realist.” Questions and answers period dealt with her use of Twitter. She does use Twitter to get her message out, but doesn’t like to read other people’s Twitter. She concluded by sharing her phone number (206) 234-6827, and encouraged members to call her, especially if they have a story they want to share.
