The January 16, 2006 Kirkland Rotary Meeting, our second meeting of the new year, was held at Jimmy G's Restaurant in Bridal Trails.  President Joanne Primavera opened the meeting and gave the inspirational moment. "The world has changed with technology.  We will have to consider what we do will affect other countries.."

Matty Tucker , our girl scout cookie merchant was introduced by Brian Tucker.

Don Mackintosh was introduced by Charles Astor.

 

Exchange Student

Vlad, our exchange student from Russia was introduced by Felicity Burdick.  Vlad spoke of his first Christmas experience here where he received gifts under the tree. "IT WAS COOL".

               

ANNOUNCEMENTS.

·        Felicity Burdick announced two events this Saturday the 21st. Volunteers are needed for collating documents at Evergreen Hospital and volunteers are needed that evening to serve food to 125 people at the Kirkland Heights Apartments.

·        Gary Bruner announced that three Rotarians were left behind at the Kirkland park and ride last Saturday when we meet for Northwest Harvest. We will not meet in the North part of the parking lot in the future to avoid confusion.

·        Steve Shinstrom asked for a volunteer scribe for the Jan. 30th meeting.

·        Steve Brown announced that member Jerry Meadows wife is in labor and expecting any minute.

·        Don Mackintosh gave his classification speech. Formerly worked for Microsoft but now has his own business making badges and signs. He is a lucky man to be rid of cancer 8 years ago along with his wife.

·        President Joanne Primavera announced that the board picked June 5th for the annual golf tournament. Location to be announced at a later time. Also Board will work with the Bellevue club to start a new breakfast or lunch Rotary club in the area.

 PROGRAM.

Dr. Ken Hutcherson Senior Pastor at the Antioch Bible Church discussed his praise for Dr. Martin Luther King.  He spoke about being able to change the world requires a leader who must also to make changes in himself.  Dr. King ws not only a great man but one who was beyond the power and interlect of those who surrounded him. He had a tremendous drive to make people believe in him.  He believed that we will not be a great country until all people are equal.

 

President Joanne Primavera presented a book about Rosa Parks to be signed by him. Rotary will present this book to John Muir Elementary School to be in their library.


President Joanne Primavera closed the meeting shortly after 7:00pm.
