President Rachel called the January 21, 2008 Kirkland Rotary meeting to order at 6:30.  It was a very lightly attended meeting due to the ML King holiday.  Evan Perrollaz lead the pledge and Jack Danforth gave the inspiring moment.  A little light info on Warren Buffett.  "Money doesn't make the man, man creates the money."

The only guest were our exchange student Pascal & speaker Dave Ramsey.

Exchange Student Update:  Pascal informed us he once again had the pleasure of visiting Whistler/Blackcomb last weekend.  Indicated he had a wonderful time and is doing fine in School

Announcement:

  • Steve Shinstrom is in desperate need of scribes.  Only has scribes for the next two meetings.  Anyone willing to scribe starting 2/11 and beyond please let him know.
  • Jean Hernandez indicated Kirkland Rotary is helping sponsor a Roteract Club at Cascadia and volunteers are needed.  There will be a meeting on February 5th.  Contact Jean for details.
  • Jim Feek and the dance club will be meeting 7:PM on Wednesday @ Voyager Studio
  • Dan Bartel indicated there would be an upcoming Duck Dash presentation to get everyone charged up for the new year.
  • Chuck Morgan wanted to know if we could still do the Duck Dash if the lake was frozen.  Referring to our current spell of cold weather.

Jim Feek called up Bill Taylor and Bob Auslander to the front of the room.  He pinned Bill Taylor with his Paul Harris Fellow pin + 5 & Bob Auslander with his Paul Harris Fellow pin +1.  Congratulations to the both of them.

A very tan and well rested Chancellor Chuck worked his magic on the room and extracted many a happy dollar.

Program:  Dave Ramsey our City Manager was our program for the evening.  He was however, not here to discuss the state of the City, but his passion for Walking/Trekking.  He gave a wonderful slide show presentation of his adventure last year of his walk across Great Britain.  It was his present to himself for his 60th birthday.  He traveled from the West Coast to the East Coast of Britain on foot for 16 days and covered approx 190 miles.  He talked about all the people he met, the places he stayed and how he organized and planned the walk.  Dave discussed the many different areas one can do these types of walks and you can do short one day excursions, medium 2 to 7 day walks that entail 20 to 100 miles or long distance walks like the one he did that cover over 100 miles and usually last in excess of 1 to 2 weeks.  He is already planning his next adventure and has his list narrowed down but no finale choice is there yet.  Great talk and very interesting.  Thanks,  Dave

Honey Pot:  Dan Bartel had is lucky ticket drawn and he let Pascal see if he could draw the lucky duck.  After two attempts he came up short so the pot will increase next week.

Your substitute scribe for a week,  Steve
