Monday, January 4, 2010 Rotary Meeting

Pat Dye stood in for Jim Feek as Acting President to lead the meeting and opened the meetings at 6:30 with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Several guests were introduced including Harry Cole, a Visiting Rotarian,  our International Exchange Student Salas Atakoy, and Steven Sifuentes our Rotarian Ambassadorial Scholar.

Announcements:  GG asked for volunteers to assist JoMae Woods as she needs a few more dates filled.  Dan Bartel, represented by Rick Bergdahl thanked everyone for their generosity with the Christmas gifts for the families and how much the families appreciated what we had done.  Also requested volunteers for First Harvest on Saturday, January 9, 2010.   Wilson Anhar talked about the bowling event on the calendar for March.  Pat Swenson announced the beginning of the reading buddies program and that next week's meeting will be the food donation collection for Hopelink.  The Scotch Tasting party is on January 16th.

Patti Smith announced there will be no meeting on January 18th.

 Pat Dye passed around the December 30th issue of the Kirkland Reporter which had a wonderful story about Chuck Morgan.   Happy dollars collected came to $304.00 and will go toward Chuck's bench.

Pat introduced Steven Sifuentes to come up and tell us about being an Ambassadorial Scholar.  Steven will be graduating from the Naval Academy in May of this year and getting married in August.  He will then begin his Ambassadorial duties and Pat invited him back in two years to share his adventures with all of us.

Patty Simms introduced our speaker Sarah Owen who was an international exchange student that just returned from Switzerland.  Sarah talked about her adventures and the challenges of going to school and living in Switzerland and how she made friends.  Sounded like she had an amazing time.

Pat Dye reminded us of the District Conference coming up in May in Portland and encouraged everyone to attend.

Carl Boruck pulled the lucky ticket – called #2 and picked the #5 ducky…………oh well!!!!!

Pat closed the meeting at 7:40 pm.

Next meeting on January 11th will be in the Marina Room again
