Program: John Woodbery introduced John Cartmell who after working as a licensed massage therapists became a certified nutritionist earning a degree at BastyrUniversity.  He is currently finished a book on Fibromyalgia.  His topic for the evening was "Health, Nutrition and the Health Care System' Mr Cartmell focused his remarks on the relationship between nutrition and disease. He emphasized that the evaluation of diet should be the first step in diagnosing disease. Instead our medical system focuses on symptom management and crisis intervention depending on drugs both for the short and long term. As an example it was noted that while veterinarians most often begin their diagnosis with the question "What are you feeding your pet" the question of diet seldom is part of a medical doctor's diagnosis protocol.  Mr. Cartmell then went on to describe the impact of deficiencies or excesses of various components such as selenium, vitamin C, protein and calcium on one's health.  His remarks brought a new perspective to the issue of how health issues are assessed and treated.  More information can be found on Mr. Cartmell's website www.dietadvisor.com.

Honey Pot:  President Steve announced that all those with lucky numbers who do not draw the blue marble will have their names put in a 2nd chance drawing later in the year. Kara Brown then drew the lucky number of Dianne Santeford. Although Diane drew the white marble and did not win the Honey Pot, her name will be put into the consolation drawing.
