The Kirkland Rotary Club meeting of June 25, 2007 began at 6:31 p.m. and was led by President, Steve Brown.   Mary Alyce Burleigh led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Carl Boruck gave a great Inspirational Minute in which he presented quotes from spiritual, intellectual, and political leaders that supported our motto, "Service Above Self."

Visiting Rotarians :  Helen Blackmoor visited from Nanaimo, B.C. and Pat Trudeau visited from the Downtown Kirkland Breakfast club.

Guests :   Maurice Coit visited the second time and Diana Landspaugh visited the first time.  Laura Avery, the Rotary Student of the Month from Lake Washington High gave her final speech and said she liked Rotary very much.

Announcements :  The Rotary Club of Kirkland won 20# of lobster for their participation in the Service Above Self Day.  Instead of the lobster, the club will receive a check for $240 and will use the proceeds for the Salmon Bake (which is August 6, 2007 at Bob Norman's home).

The Rotary Club of Kirkland will not sponsor the Kirkland Performance Center Auction in September, but Steve Brown and G.G. Getz will sponsor a table.  If you wish to support the Kirkland Performance Center, please see G.G. or Steve.

The transition dinner will be July 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the tent at the Woodmark.  The price for dinner will be the same.  The dinner will have a Hawaiian theme, so dress appropriately.

Steve Shinstrom needs scribes...please sign up.

Jim Feek and Rich Bergdahl indicated that 68 members have given funds to the Rotary International Foundation.  Patti said that the club donated $5,000 to literacy programs in Turkey, which was matched by the partner club in Istanbul and Rotary International for a total of $15,000.

Chuck Brockway collected happy dollars.  Of note, Harry and Joyce Cummings celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, Bill and JoMae Woods will celebrate their 60th in three months, John and Teddy Overleese celebrated their 38th, and Sinclair and Donna Jones both forgot their anniversary on June 14.

Program :  Dianne Santeford gave an overview of the July 4th picnic.  The picnic is from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Juanita Beach Park.  Dianne still needs volunteers and may be contacting you to help.  Volunteers should check in at the information booth and will be given a Celebrate Kirkland t-shirt and a Rotary button to wear during the picnic.  Rotary members are encouraged to pick up trash during the day and recycle it in the appropriate bins.  If you need a parking pass for the lot, see Dianne.

Steve Shinstrom heads up our July 4th parade entry.  Steve will send out an email with directions to his parents house and needs you to help him.  As usual, we have two convertibles, the Duck Dash car prize, and a truck with Momma Duck (the truck is being donated by Lee Johnson Chevrolet/Mazda).

John Overleese has set up the duck sales before the parade.  He asks for everyone who has signed up to meet at the 'headquarters' in front of the US Bank parking lot on Central at 10:00 a.m.  He will give each participant a location in which to sell.  There will be an auxiliary booth in Marina Park.  All volunteers who sell should pick up a duck umbrella when the parade starts and join the Rotary Club of Kirkland parade entry.  We also have some duck hats for those who are not afraid to make fools of themselves.

Bob Webb said the Branding Party will take place on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. in the Lee Johnson Chevrolet/Mazda service bay.  We will brand 19,000 ducks.  Bring gloves, if you wish.  Pizza and soft drinks will be served after all the ducks are ready to race.

Bob asked everyone to turn in their sold tickets to Joanne (425) 822-0254 ASAP.

Volunteers are needed to set up the boom with the ducks, race the ducks, and take the ducks out of the water.  If you volunteer to take the ducks out of the water, please know you are going to get wet and dirty.  We may need gas leaf blowers for the race, so if you have one, call Bob.

Brian Tucker said he won't have a flag retiring ceremony this year at the picnic, but if anyone would like to retire their flag, they should be given to him.

THERE WILL BE NO MEETING ON MONDAY, JULY 2, 2007.

Our student of the month, Laura Avery, drew the lucky marble and won $75 in the honeypot.   She is going to Paris, so the money will come in handy.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 P.M.
