Announcements

Duck Dash and Fourth of July Picnic:

John Overleese reminded us that we are fast approaching the Big Race and the final days of Duck Dash sales.  He asked for volunteers to sign up for our various venues and sheets were distributed and placed on our website of the various locations.

Steve Shinstrom reminded us of the decorating party before the parade at his parent's home.  Time and directions to follow.

Barb Seaton asked that all ticket stubs and monies be turned in now, so that the information can be entered in the computer.  You can deliver the stubs and money to her bank (People's Bank) at Carillon Point.

Jeanne MacRae gave us an update on the Picnic at Juanita Beach on the 4th of July.  Lots of activities, games, music, the ceremonial flag burning, etc.  The fireworks are still "iffy" due the barge problem and money is being raised to meet the additional $10,000 request.  Steve Brown has generously donated $5,000 toward this need and $100 pledges are being sold to raise the balance of the money.  Grape Choice has further details and will accept the donations.

Diane Santeford went over the various games that will be played on the day of the Picnic.

David Aubry has the parking passes for volunteers that arrive in the afternoon of the Picnic to be able to park at the Beach.

Patti Smith requested more volunteers and asked that you check in with our Information Booth the day of the Picnic and you will be given opportunities to help.

Sharon Cavell needs ticket sellers in our Rotary Duck Dash booth; see her to sign up.

Other Announcements:

Joanne reminded us that there will not be a meeting on July 3rd since we will all be busy with the 4th of July events.

The Salmon Bake has been moved to August 14th since there was a conflict with our planned speaker for August 7th.  The Salmon Bake will be at the Norman's and volunteers will be recruited shortly.

Kirkland Performance Center (KPC) pledges are due now.  Please make your check to:  Kirkland Rotary Foundation and deliver to Barb Seaton.  The $10,000 check will come from the Club to KPC and your pledges are tax deductible by making them to the Foundation.  (A list of the individuals making the pledges will be given to KPC for their records.)

PROGRAM

Speaker:  Tim Kehrli (our own Katherine Kehrli's husband)

Director of Government Sales, Solar Integrated, Inc.

About our Speaker:  Tim collaborates with senior officials at all levels of federal and state government to identify opportunities for building integrated photovoltaic systems.  Other projects under development include solar tents for water purification and disaster response systems.

Topic:  Fossil Fuel, Global Warming---Do We Have A Chance?

Tim gave us a very informative talk about alternative fuels, especially solar heating and cooling.  He discussed the cost of our current (U.S.A.) methods of obtaining fuel for our needs and what other areas of the country, as well as areas outside of the U.S. are doing to make heating and cooling of buildings more affordable and sustainable.  He discussed the impact on businesses and individuals.  Tim also brought along one of the panels used by his company to provide solar heat/cooling systems to buildings.

Joanne adjourned our meeting at 7:50 p.m.
