Short Program #2

Brandon Honcoop introduced  Christina Thomas, Principal at BESTHigh School and Corina McGinnis, Service Learning Co-ordinator. They shared the concept of the Service Learning and indicated that versus typical community service expected of high school kids, Service Learning is meaningful, reflective, and is conducted for a longer period of time so students have ownership and accountability working with organizations in their community.

PROGRAM: Selis Atakoy

Selis gave the membership an overview of her year in a Powerpoint presentation. She enjoyed her year immensely and feels that she has had a better exchange experience than her sister who is currently on exhange in Italy due to the fact that she lived with families and really came to understand how family life is in the US. She also liked US High Schools better as she did not have to wear a uniform and could participate in school sports which they do not have in Turkey. She thanked the Rotarians and her host families for a great year.

Reminders:

June 14th - Club Assembly - it will be a fun event this year.

June 21st - Transition Dinner at the Woodmark

June 28th - Duck branding at Lee Johnson's

DV Hurst drew the lucky ticket and gave the money to Selis
