Rotary Minutes for March 16, 2009

President O'Bob Webb (decked out in a green top hat and huge green bow tie) opened our social/meeting event at 6:50 p.m. at the Wilde Rover in Kirkland.  Guests and members were "wearing of the green" in honor of an early St. Patrick's Day celebration.  Lots of green beer and finger food was consumed.  Members were requested to sign in and to pay $15 at the next meeting.  (No money was collected at this event.)

Most regular business was suspended except Guests and Visiting Rotarians were introduced.

Guests:   Sarah Brooks , visiting for the 3rd or 4th time.  First social event and loving every minute.  Dave Dubois, visiting for the umpteen time and sharing his travels in Ireland and navigating the byroads.  Adam Bardini, guest of Brandon Honcoop, a prospective member.  Member spouses were not introduced, since there were so many and most have attended numerous functions.

Visiting Rotarians :  Lee and Pam Ready from North Shoreline Club.

Inspirational Moment delivered by David O'Aubry.  His topic:  There are only two things to worry about; if you are well or not.  If you are well, then there is really only one thing to worry about; are you getting better or not.  If you are healthy, then only one thing to worry about, death.  If you are dead, then really only one thing to worry about, are you going to Heaven or Hell.  If you are in Heaven, only one thing to worry about: Hell.  If you are in Hell, only one thing to worry about:  How much time it will take to greet all of your friends?  (This was the basic theme of the moment---for accurate details, see Dave Aubry.)

Ernie Norehead had an additional inspirational moment to add:  "Every Day Above Ground is a Good Day".

At this point, O'Bob turned the social/meeting event over to President Elect Jim O'Feek.

O'Jim had a few "Irish" jokes to share---none that will be repeated into the minutes.  (You have to have been there to appreciate them.)

Billy Whelan , Proprietor of the Wilde Rover was introduced and wanted to say a few words to our membership.  He told us how happy he and his partners are to have Rotary use their Pub & Restaurant and that they contribute to many charitable events.  He welcomed our members to use his facility for other charities and mentioned he gives auction items.  Not to let this opportunity pass, O'Pat O'Swenson requested a donation for our upcoming Rotary Auction and was given a "yes" Happy to Do So.  Rachel O'Knight was happy to accept on behalf of the Auction Committee.

A surprise announcement by Miriam O'Webb (wife of our leader O'Bob) let all members know she is "feeling neglected and is now available".  She did not specify what she is available for, but it has been duly noted for the minutes.

O'Jim then divided up all of the attending members and guests into Teams.  Each team was given the same set of questions and encouraged to shout out the answers.  The questions had an Irish theme. O'Brandon and his lovely wife, O'becca, were "spotters" and awarded the Team with the correct answer a chocolate Easter egg.  The Team with the most eggs (Team 5-with 12 eggs) won little green furry ducks.  There was much debate over correct answers, the ability to HEAR the questions and the decision on the winning Teams.  Happily, no Irish fist fights---just lots of laughter and merriment by all.  Team 5 members decided to donate the little green ducks to the Reading Buddies program, which will be put to use this week.

Games were completed and our Newest Member was Inducted by O'Steve O'Brown:  Roy Selvidge.  Our first, ever, Green Badge was presented to O'Roy, who also had to wear a green hat during the presentation, keeping with the Irish theme.  Royhas moved successfully from Red to Blue.  Be sure to welcome Roy at the next meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Brian O'Tucker has Boy Scouts of America donation flyers for Troop #532, which our Rotary Club has supported during the past 6 years.  These donations help the boys go to Summer Camp and other activities.  Please see Brian if you wish to make a donation or need further information.

Reminder by President O'Bob that our next meeting is back at the Woodmark and that our next Wilde Rover meeting will be in May for our Duck Dash kick-off party.
