Tonight's meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by President Rachel Knight.  The flag salute was led by Jack Danforth. The Greeters tonight were David Hunnicutt and Joanne Primavera.  There was no Inspirational Moment tonight.  Instead, Song Leader Bob Webb led the club in 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame.'

DISTRICT CONFERENCE -

Miracle League Video to be produced by our club for viewing at the conference.  Use of a camera for this project is needed.

 

KIRKLAND REPORTER NEWSPAPER - SPECIAL ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY - ROTARY SHARES 2008 (Jim Feek)

Rotary Supplement to be produced for delivery in the Kirkland Reporter during week of May 21st to co-inside with build-up to July 4th Duck Dash.  Purpose of this piece is to promote 'Who Kirkland Rotary Is' and 'What Kirkland Rotary Does.'  This is a great opportunity for our members to advertise their businesses and their enthusiasm for our community and Kirkland Rotary.  Advertising is the key to the success of this project . the number of pages contained in the supplement depends upon the number of advertisement contained therein.  Further, the more pages in the supplement, the more articles we can have about the many different aspects and activities of Kirkland Rotary.  Advertising rates vary from $84 to $975 depending on ad size.  Contact Jim Feek for more details.    

 

HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS (Brandon Honcoop)

The interviews are just about completed and Brandon thanked the school co-ordinators that helped interview the 35+ high school seniors for this years scholarships.

 

BLAINE GRANT (Kae Peterson, LakeForrestPark Rotary Club)

Ms. Peterson presented President Rachel with a plaque from Kirkland Hopelink for our club's participation (along with 4 other Eastside Rotary Clubs) in the immunization of 500+ seniors, women and children at 13 area locations this winter.

 

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION (Jim Feek)

Tom Sturgell was presented with his 6th  Paul Harris Fellow pin. Thank you Tom for your great effort and words about the work of the Foundation!

 

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS (Gary Bruner, District Fellowship Chairperson)

'Rotary's best kept secret' . sharing the magic of membership retention.  Fellowships are a great avenue for fellowship and networking within the Rotary International membership among various areas of interest .there are approximately 100 global networking groups ..  For example yachting, wine & food, and dentistry(?) ... to name a few.

 

John Overleese and Gary Bruner are organizing a Wine Fellowship 'template' event in April.  There will be space for 20 people for this event on a 'first to sign up' basis.  More information and the sign-up will be forthcoming.    

 

SPEAKER/PROGRAM

Patti Smith introduced the evening's speaker . JOCELYN 'Toolie' GARNER.

 

Ms. Garner's program was titled:  THE SECRET INSIDIOUS COST OF POOR COMPUTER SKILLS.

 

A former Microsoft employee in the Windows and Database Programming areas (10 years), Ms. Garner is now a private computer consultant at Tooliedotter, Inc.  Her program addressed:

 

 'What's really going on with you staff, and what you can do about it!'

 

Top 5 Computer Skills You & Your Staff Need to Improve Productivity :

5)     Backups - backing up your company's intellectual property on a regular basis.

4)     Maintaining Workstations - activities include:  anti-virus, OS updates, spyware prevention, software updates, defragmentation.
