The May 22nd, 2006 meeting was called to order by President Joanne Primavera at 6:30 PM.  Sinclair Jones led us in the pledge and Joanne had an Inspirational Moment concerning Memorial Day, May 29th.  We should all observe a moment of silence at 3:00 PM to honor all those who have died at war serving our country.

Announcements;

    Duck Dash-    Sign up for Venues on the Sign-up Board; we need to have 3 people at each session. Kirkland Downtown Assoc., Duvall Days and Best School are all partners this year in Duck sales.

    Golf Tournament-    June 12 at Mt. Si Golf course.  Sign up soon, it's going to be a beautiful day!

    Felicity Burdick announced we received a Rotary Grant for $3500 for kindergarten packets (backpacks and supplies) and readers to increase literacy for students at John Muir Elementary.  Way to go!

    Jack Danforth brought us up to speed on the Miracle League.  We really need volunteers to help, since we need to have a 1:1 ratio of adults to players, and the player turnout has been great!  We're barely making it on the number of volunteers.  Please get in touch with Jack to volunteer; next week the game is out on the Sammamish Plateau.

    Rotary Foundation-    Rich Bergdahl informed us we are approx. $800 shy of our goal of $12,500 for 2005-2006.  We have 3 meetings left; let's go!

    Kirkland Boys and Girls Club Auction-    Karen Quirk shared the auction raised $140,000 this year.  Joanne announced we were awarded a Children's Champion award- way to go!

    Pat Swenson-    we 'Got to Know' four more of our fellow Rotarians:

                            Tom Sturgell, Felicity Burdick, Bob Norman, and

                             Patti Smith.  They were given four minutes to tell

                            us a little about themselves.  Not one of them, not

                            even Tom Sturgell, could avoid a fine on this one.  By

                            the way Sue, we're all on your Christmas card list

                            after we got to know Tom a little better.

Program:    Jack Danforth introduced Jeneane Lesko, a teammate on his over 55 softball team, but more importantly, a player in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL).  The league existed from 1943-1954.  It started out with softball, but changed and finished as a baseball league.  The players traveled around by bus, train and station wagons, when the money got a little thin.  They were accompanied by chaperones and had to attend Charm School on order from Mr. Wrigley(of gum and Chicago Cub fame, I presume), the originator of the league.

Jeneane took us through the history of the league, with musical 'accompaniment'.  There is an exhibit at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.  Also, the movie "A League of Their Own" is based on the AAGPBL.

Honeypot:    Tatyana was our winner!

Meeting adjourned at 8:00
