The Meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by President Steve Brown

 

John Spangenberg led us in the flag salute

 

President Steve announced that this meeting will be the second candidates' forum, comprising those running for local State House seats..

Introductions & Visiting Rotarians:

 

John Woodbery introduced Frank LaSalata, a candidate for County District Court Judge in the upcoming election.

 

Katherine Kehrli introduced her husband Tim who isd delivering a solar-powered desalinization plant to Honduras in December

 

Jim Feek introduced Dr. Tom Gant [sp?], a retired plastic surgeon who is visiting us for the third time.

 

Dennis Newell introduced Jack and Cheryl Bloodworth.

 

John Spangenberg introduced State Rep. Toby Nixon.

 

Announcements:

 

President Steve drew our attention to a recent mention in the Kirkland Courier of the fact that Rich Bergdahl and Scott Becker had achieved the honor of being named Paul Harris Fellows.

 

Jeannie McRae announced that henceforth their will be a 'makeup sheet' by the Rotary badge box for us to use in noting our makeup meetings.

 

Joanne Primavera announced that there is a session this Saturday for all interested Rotarians to learn more about Rotary Foundation, strengthening individual Rotary Clubs, and engaging new members into club activities.  There were flyers with details on our tables.

 

Mike Hunter thanked everyone who participated in First Harvest on Saturday.

 

Bill Taylor reminded everyone to sign the sympathy card for Jerry Campos, whose mother recently passed away.

 

Dave Aubry announced that he will distribute flyers about the Thursday orientation for John Muir's reading program.  More volunteers are still welcome to get involved in this fun and valuable activity.

 

Diane Santiford announced that Operation Warm will meet Oct. 27 - sign-ups are solicited.

 

Steve Shinstrom reminded everyone about Bunco Night this Saturday evening.

 

Brian Tucker thanked Gary and Ingrid Bruner for the use of their boat to transport Boy Scouts to JamesIsland.

 

Patti Smith welcomed our candidates to the forum.

 

45th District

Jeffrey Possinger (R) was unable to attend, but was ably represented by his campaign manager, Brendan Woodard.

Ross Hunter (D) spoke; his opponent was not here so Mr. Hunter did not participate in the remainder of the forum activities.

 

Each candidate had five minutes to speak, and then one minute to answer questions until the end of the meeting.  There will then be an opportunity for a short closing statement be each candidate.

 

Gary Bruner had the lucky ticket and drew the Rotary Blue marble, thereby winning the large pot.

 

President Steve adjourned the meeting at 7:45PM.
