Our guest speaker for the evening was Perry Dolan, President of the Washington State Senior Games.  He explained how the senior games are organized in Washington and around the country.  This is a rapidly growing organization that is representative of a very large segment of this country's population.  The events include track and field, swimming, tennis, golf, and table tennis, and has games for people of all abilities.  The event takes place in 17 different venues around the state.  It is based on a health and wellness model and the organization is a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee.  By 2010 there will be more than 3 million people over the age of 50, so the organization is expecting much growth in the future as a larger segment of the population enters their senior years.  Perry also told about a student athlete mentoring program that was started in Port Angeles and will be replicated around the country, where student volunteers serve as mentors for seniors, thus bringing together 2 large segments of the population.  The organization charges a nominal fee to enter the games, and is working with large corporations around the country to raise money to support the games.  At this point, this is an all volunteer organization.  They are hoping to grow to other countries outside of the U.S.   For more information you can go to www.pugetsoundgames.com, or contact Perry Dolan at perry_dolan@msn.com, or by phone at 425-889-9064.

Bill Woods, in honor of his advancing years, shared "10 Good Things about Getting Old".

Bob Auslander had the winning ticket to the Honey Pot, but came up with a Starbucks Card.  This way, everyone's a winner!

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.
