Rotary Meeting Monday October 4, 2010

 

The meeting began at 6:30 pm by President Pat Dye.  The flag salute was lead by Pat Dye.  This was a joint meeting with the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce and the Kirkland Rotary with candidates from the 45th District Legislative debate forum.  Announcement were lead by Pat Swenson asking for volunteers for Reading Buddies program that begins November 1st to 5th.  Please contact her or Barb Seaton, if you are interested in being a Leader.    Dave DuBois provided information about the upcoming Northwest Harvest volunteer day on October 9th.  Meet at the Houghton Park and Ride at 8:00 a.m., if you wish to participate.    

Visiting Rotarians and guests include, Brain Tucker introducing Donna Tucker who is running for the NE Municipal Court. Jim Feek introduced his wife Kathy Feek as well as Doug Carter and Brad Larson.  Both Doug and Brad are looking over Rotary to be potential members.  Dan Mayor from Kirkland Performance Center was a visiting guest and also a potential member.  Dick Carlson was again visiting from Arizona, were he is a Rotarian.  There were also numerous visitors representing each of the candidates.

 

Pat Dye turned the program over at 6:47 pm to Patti Smith the facilitator who went over the rules of the debate. Makaylaa Powers was selected as “timer” to keep the candidates within the allotted time for each question.

 

Patti Smith introduced each candidate.  Each candidate was allowed 2 minutes to introduce themselves and also give reasons why we should vote for them.

 

Following are each of the candidates from the 45th District in order of introductions:

 

Eric Oeming – State Senate (D) Incumbent

Andy Hill – State Senate (GOP)

Roger Goodman – State Representative (D) Incumbent       

Kevin Hastings-State Representative (GOP)

Larry Springer – State Representative (D) Incumbent

Mark Isaacs – State Representative (GOP)

 

At 7:23 candidates took questions from other candidates.  At 7:33pm questions were directed to candidates from audience.  Rotary meeting was adjourned at 8:04 by Pat Dye, thanking the candidates and inviting everyone to attend Monday October 11th as Kirkland Rotary and the Kirkland Chamber co-sponsor the 48th District Legislative Candidate Forum.
