Minutes of Rotary Meeting 10/6/08

Greeter was Eric Olsen, assisted by Dave Aubry who was obviously confused as to whether he was Greeting or Scribing, and ended up doing both.  The meeting was called to order by President Bob Webb at 6:30.  The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Dick Westin

The Inspirational Moment was offered by Alice Volpe, who recited an epic poem of her own composition, explaining what Rotary means to her.  The members expressed their agreement with her sentiments.

Guests/Introductions - Pascal had another great week.  However, he did lament that all the local football teams lost BIG.  He is looking forward to the Homecoming Dance - he has a "beautiful date".

Steve Brown introduced Matt Hanson from the now-defunct Columbia Tower Club, who is checking us out.

Rich Bergdahl introduced Jim Hart, an esteemed former member and former Club President.  Bob Webb introduced former and future member David Tucker.

Bob Webb mentioned four current and former member birthdays.  He also read a list of several members whose Rotary anniversary is this month.

Eric Olsen went from Red Badge to Blue.  Her sponsor, Patti Smith, received one of the first of the new 'Sponsor' pins.  Jim Feek encouraged us to find new members.  [Question - since Dick Westin came back, David Tucker is looking to come back, and Jim Hart visited, does that mean recycling of members is the way to go???]

Patti Smith introduced our speaker Pat Trudell, and his assistant Kim.  He is a founding member and Past President of the Downtown Rotary Club, and member of the Chamber of Commerce.  Mr. Trudell spoke about "Decision-Making and the Human Brain."  He discussed how the brain perceives information and about how to present information in order for that information to be accepted by the people you are addressing.  He applies what he has learned about how we think, communicate, and make decisions to many areas of his life, including his law practice.

Carl Boruck had the winning number, but alas, did not draw the winning duck.

The meeting was adjourned about 7:35PM.

Respectfully submitted,

David Aubry, Acting Scribe
