Announcements

The club's exchange student, Elisa Puggioni, made the decision 2 weeks ago to return to end her exchange and return to Italy. Despite the encouragement of her host family and the Youth Exchange committees (both the Club and District), homesickness was too great for her to adjust to being away from her loved ones.

Residence XII sent a Thank You card to our club for all our hard work on their property last month.

All are encouraged to make sure they sign-in at the front table when they arrive for each meeting so that their attendance is properly counted.

The revised scholarship applications are now available on the Rotary Club website (Club Runner).  See Mike Hunter if you have any questions.

The club service project will take place this Saturday at Northwest Harvest. Meet at the Houghton Park & Ride at 8:00 and carpool to Seattle.  All are welcome to enjoy lunch together after the service project.

Rotary International is seeking nominations for the Group Study Exchange (GSE) to Japan which begins in April and lasts for a month.   The nominees sought are to be non-Rotarians between the ages of 25 and 40.  See Bill Taylor for more information.

Rotary District 5030 Conference will be held April 20-22, 2007, at the Couer d' Alene Resort in Couer d' Alene, Idaho.  This is a great opportunity for fellowship, education and inspiration with fellow Puget Sound Rotarians in a beautiful alpine lakeside setting.  Room reservations are filling up quickly.  Contact Steve Brown or Bill Taylor for more details.

Bean-O Bunko Night is Saturday October 21st at the house of Steve and Patty Shinstrom.  Sign up to attend and to bring a side dish.

Program:

Candidate forum was introduced by Patti Smith. Rep. Toby Nixon (R) - 45th Legislative District;  Luke Esser (R) - 48th Legislative District; Eric Oemig (D) - 45th Legislative District;  Rep. Rodney Tom (D) - 48th Legislative District.

Each candidate was given the opportunity express why he was running for Congress. All four candidates voiced the same main concerns: transportation and education for Washington.  After each candidate spoke, a 10-minute break was offered to the club members to discuss various issues and to come up with a unified question from each table. After the break, each candidate was given the opportunity to answer the question from each table. The questions revolved around the candidates' position on the estate tax, funding for transportation, and status of spending on education.  As a wrap-up, each candidate was given a "final quick minute" rebuttal opportunity.

Honey Pot:

Al Hoviland had the lucky number for the night but did not draw the Rotary blue marble. The "Second Chance Raffle" will be held in 2-weeks.
