ANNOUNCEMENTS

·         The Kirkland Rotary Foundation Auction is Saturday Evening at the Kirkland Womens Club again on Saturday April 24.  Please RSVP to Rachel Knight by phone or email.  Also, we still need items to auction >> also to Rachel

·         Kathy Dewalt is the Executive Producer of "Ten Grands" an annual concert and fundraiser for the Snowman Foundation which raises funds for supporting music education for children.  www.tengrands.com   There will be 10 grand pianos on the Benaroya stage on May 21 with music including jazz, classics, pop, boogie woogie, blues, and more.  Kathy has spoken to a number of  Rotary Clubs and has about 45 block tickets for this concert which has sold out the last two years.  Several other Rotary Clubs are supporting the event and an added plus is a special reception for Rotarians after the event.  The event is also sponsored by many prominent businesses and nonprofits.

PROGRAM    John Hamer, President of the Washington News Council, told us about this nonprofit's mission and activities since being founded in 1998.  This organization has a Board of Directors that is a Who's Who of Western Washington and the Founding Board was also even more prominent.  Its mission is to "to help maintain public trust and confidence in the news media by promoting fairness, accuracy and balance".  It does this by creating a public forum in which journalistic ethics and accountability can be reviewed after a detailed evaluation of complaints. Several of these rather egregious news reports were presented by Mr. Hamer and well illustrated the Council's activities in detail.  See their webpage www.wanewscouncil.org for much more interesting info.

TICKET DRAWING AND ADJORN Our meeting ended about 7:40 with drawing of the lucky ticket.  Amazing!  Again our Elisha, our student of the month, had the lucky ticket and accurately picked the right number to win several bucks.

Respectfully submitted         Bob Webb

PS.  The "10 Grand" Concert sounds great.  Marian and I want to go; let's get a group.  Call or email Rick Ostrander to sign-up.  But do it QUICK while there are still tickets.
