Jerry Campo thanked everyone who participated in the annual Salmon Bake.  He was especially appreciative of those who came early to set up:  Pat Swenson, Alice Volpe and Al Hoviland, Bill and Sandy Taylor, Chuck Brockway, Jason Overleese, and Rick Ostrander.  Bill Taylor and Chuck Brockway grilled the Salmon to perfection.  Jerry said Tim at Tim’s Seafood in Park Place gave us a very good price for all the salmon.

President Patti Smith thanked the Top Four Ticket Sales members:  #1Ernie Norehad; #2 Bill Woods; #3 Rick Ostrander, and #4 Brad Green.  Thanks were also given to Bob Webb and Al Hoviland for making sure the ducks got put in the water on race day and the race was actually run.

Program:  District Governor, Steve Lingenbrink, was introduced by Assistant District Governor, Chris Boland.  District Governor Lingenbrink gave a State of Rotary District 5030 and Rotary International.

Rotary International’s President is Sakuji Tanaka.  His theme this year is:   Peace Through Service.  Logo is on home page

Rotary International President Tanaka explained that after Polio is eradicated, he wishes Rotarians would help provide peace throughout the world, whatever that means to every area and every Rotarian.  District Governor Lingenbrink invited all members to attend a conference in Honolulu in January which will discuss issues of peace.  There is a link to this conference on the District website.

Steve received a Rotary International Public Relations grant to develop a theme for the district:

EPIC stands for Education, Public Image, and Communications.  Peace Through Service is the RI theme for this year and To Russia With Love is the theme for the Rotary District Conference.  This are connected together Rotarians working to provide A Life Building Hope for their communities.

This year’s Rotary District 5030 Conference will be held in Coeur d’Alene on May 3-5, 2013.  This theme is spearheaded by Rotary District 5030 Group Study Exchange with Russia.  Five or six young professionals will be hosted by Rotarians in Russia for four weeks, and five or six young professionals from Russia will be in District 5030 and will attend the conference.  You are invited to attend the conference.  To register, visit the website at:  http://alifebuildinghope.org/2013-district-conference-may-3-5-coeur-dalene-idaho/

District Governor Lingenbrink invited Rotarians to participate in the Rotary Academy, which has a kick-off on October 23.  He also invited members to attend a gathering of Rotarians on September 15, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Bellevue Community College.  Three areas have joined together:  Membership, Foundation, and Public Image to provide training and learn practical skills.

District Governor Lingenbrink applauded the Rotary Club of Kirkland for participating in the Rotary International Foundation.  He said the funds dispersed back to the club will be given to clubs who give money to the foundation.  District 5030 is going to participate in a program on Pandora Internet Radio, the only district which has been invited to do so at this time.

To conclude, District Governor Lingenbrink gave President Patti a certificate of appreciation from Rotary International for the Rotary Club of Kirkland being chartered for seventy-five years.

Jim Going did not have enough tickets to sell for the $5100+ pot for the Joker Pool, so it was cancelled.  The next Joker Pool will be at the next meeting on September 17, 2012.
