The February 27, 2006, meeting was called to order by President Joanne Primavera at 6:30 PM.  Bob Webb led us in the pledge and Bob Auslander gave an inspirational moment on "The Best Is Yet to Come."

Announcements:

-Mike Hunter announced next Monday's meeting is Scholarship Awards Night.

-Craig Neal announced the Rotary Foundation Auction is Sunday, April 2 at 5:30 PM.  He will be looking for donations and volunteers at later meetings.

-The next Northwest Harvest is March 11, 2006.

-Bob Aulander invited Rotarians to the St. Patrick's After Day Party on March 18, 7:00 PM at his house.

-Karin Quirk asked for sponsors for the Boys and Girls Club Summer Dreams Auction 2006 on May 20th.  Contact her if you are interested.

-Thanks to Brett Johnson for the use of the luxury box at the hockey game last Saturday night.

-Chuck Morgan's surgery was successful and he is staying at Cascade Vista on NE 85th St. in Redmond.  He would love some visitors.

-The money sent to Slidell has been used to help rebuild the damaged facility and it is now operational.

-Spelling Bee Contest at Kirkland Performance Center on February 28 at 6:30 PM.  Go cheer for your fellow Rotarians.

 

Jeff de Gauilleau , principal of John Muir Elementary, informed us that the money we have given to the school has been used for a general literacy fund, to help train teachers, and to give kindergarteners backpacks with supplies so they can become familiar with them before school starts.

 

Laura Cook and Rich Whitehill invited Rotarians to the Fourth Annual Bear Creek Friends of Scouting Breakfast.  They will be featuring the service projects completed in 2005 by the most recent Eagle Scouts.  The event takes place on March 24 at Bear Creek Country Club at 7:30 AM.  Call 425-822-3850 if interested in attending.

 

Ashley Johnson, student of the month, thanked the club for the honor and gave a short presentation on her experience with Rotary.

 

Program:

Lisa Dittmar gave a presentation on her experience as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar.  Lisa is from Brier, WA and is a graduate of the University of Washington.  She stated that the Rotary scholar program is the biggest non-governmental program in the country.  The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar program is a 9 month to a one year study.  Lisa went to Montevideo in Uruguay where she studied MARCOSUR, a trade agreement for the region.  She also volunteered at an orphanage and is involved with Computers for the World.  She had a wonderful time and continues to stay in contact with the people she met during her study in Uruguay.
