Program

Brian Tucker, member, and son Brian Jr. gave a presentation on their 2010 Polio Immunization Trip to Ethiopia.  They administered the two drops at a couple of sites, in the capital, Addis Ababa, and out in a village.

They worked/visited Cheshire House, a non-profit organization, that rehabilitates and educates polio victims and among many services, makes custom made shoes for club foot.

They also visited a TB clinic and one of only two eye clinics in all of Africa; there are only 6 trained optometrists in Africa.

They spent time at Yetesfa Bar Academy (sp?) which was founded by the Mahi, for children to obtain an education. They also educate people that are shunned or do not have an opportunity for education included HIV positive and prostitutes.

They also visited member,  Mekonen Giorgis’s home and shared pictures.

5 remaining countries to eradicate polio: Ethiopia, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.

A country must remain polio-free for three years to qualify as polio-free. Genetic markers allow health workers to track various strains and to isolate for eradication.
