The August program series, Furry Friends, highlighted several animal service providers delivering support to the Kirkland community. Officer Dan Hopkins and Police Dog Leo, who comprise the Kirkland Police Department K-9 team,  provided Rotarians K-9 history, training program highlights, safety priorities, and described a few interesting cases. Robert Leach and Nikki Johnson introduced Rotarians to Pickles Playland, a canine care and training facility newly relocated to Kirkland’s Carillon Point.

Rotarians were provided an opportunity to learn about Pickles’ approach to training, and how current lifestyles of customers shape this market and the training the Pickles team provides. Finally, Bonnie VeVea described why volunteers formed what is now MEOW Cat Rescue, and how in their nearly 25-year history they’ve come to place 800 – 1,000 animals a year. Thanks to Dave DeBois for designing this speaker series.
