President Patti Smith gaveled the second meeting of the new year to order at 6:36pm.  President Patti thanked the greeter, Scott Becker, the scribe, John Pruitt, and gave a warm welcome to our newest member Bob Cohon.

Dave DeBois led the Pledge of Allegiance; being D.V. Hurst was under the weather, we had no inspirational minute.

Guests included visiting Rotarians Howard Manus, from the Dulles Airport Club in Virginia, and Kati & Lou Melendez from the Gig Harbor North Club.  Ty Baird, our student of the month from Juanita High School made her second visit.  Janet Pruitt was the guest of John Pruitt.

Announcements:

·         Hey!  Our speaker had to cancel at the last minute.  Hopefully he can reschedule.

·         A big thank you for all who participated in the Christmas Gift Program that helped three needy families.  A special thanks to Dave DeBois and Elizabeth Rusnak who headed up the Program.

·         A reminder:  You must initial the Sign-in Sheet to get credit for attending Rotary!  Also, there is a 50% attendance requirement; and yes, Rotary make-ups at other clubs and participation in Rotary activities such as Rotary First Harvest count towards the 50% requirement.

New Rotary Project was announced:

President Patti announced that our club is adopting sections 1 and 2 of the Cross Kirkland Corridor.  The Corridor is the old Burlington Northern railroad bed.  In April 2012, the City of Kirkland purchased a 5.75 mile segment that stretches from the southern border of Kirkland up to the Totem Lake area.  The 5.75 mile segment is broken into 23 quarter-mile sections.  Our club will be responsible for picking up trash in Sections 1 and 2 [the southernmost sections].  Attached is a map of the Cross Kirkland Corridor.

Our first work-party will be scheduled soon.  However, all participants must complete the attached Participant Consent/Hold Harmless Agreement and return it to Patti.  The Agreement must be completed and returned before you can help out!  A copy of the Agreement is attached.  Please complete the Agreement and return it to Patti Smith either by email:  Patti@PSmithInsurance.com or by Fax:  425/803-0200.

Lots of Happy Dollars:

Rick Walter did a fine job collecting Happy Dollars.  Happiness came from many places, including:

·         Being married for 50 wonderful years [Bob Webb]

·         Being “Kissy Good Night” [Mike Hunter]

·         Losing weight [Terry Cole]

·         Finding a “hot dog” [Chief Olsen]

·         Skiing at Big White [Scott Becker]

·         Having a Granddaughter in the Nutcracker [Carl Boruck]

·         Having a Golden Lab puppy [Brian Tucker]

·         Happy family visits [Elizabeth Rusnak, Rick Ostrander, and others]

·         There were many others with happiness that the scribe missed recording.

Adjournment:  President Patti Smith reminded us to get our Participant Consent/Hold Harmless Agreements completed and sent to her.  The meeting was adjourned at 7:20pm

Note that there are two attachments!
