Effective July 1, 2010 Friends of Youth transferred the operation of KTUB to the Bellevue YMCA.

“The Kirkland Teen Union Building is a recreation, resource, and arts center that strives to meet and exceed the social and cultural needs of our community’s young people. KTUB inspires young people to develop skills and to make a difference in their community. It is our goal to respond to and advocate for the needs of youth in Kirkland and beyond, as well as to offer resources that help empower youth to become active, caring, and responsible members of the community.

The KTUB boasts a youth-run café and store, two stages for live music, photographic darkroom, recording studio, technology lab, silkscreen station and an art studio. We also offer tutoring and classes that range from breakdancing to fashion illustration to black and white photography. Quarterly class descriptions are online at our website and registration is available at www.kirklandparks.net

All-Ages concerts are a collaborative effort between staff, volunteers, and interns who are involved with every aspect of our concert program. We host monthly Open Mic nights as well as offering opportunities to record music as well as learn the technical aspects of audio recording. In the darkroom, people of all ages come to develop film and create black and white prints. In the Art Studio, young people can make use of our silkscreening equipment or develop their own mixed media projects.

KTUB has a variety of service learning and volunteer opportunities that focus on civic engagement. Youth interested in volunteering can contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@ktub.org

KTUB has an on-site counselor who provides free and confidential services by drop-in and appointment. Young people can also connect with Eastside Outreach team who assist homeless young people with case management to find shelter, transportation, access to health care or work towards family reconciliation when possible.”
