Patti Smith introduced our speaker for the evening, Peggy Ostrander, wife of Rotarian Rick Ostrander.  Peggy is a Docent and member of the Speakers Bureau for the BellevueArtsMuseum.  She spoke about the Past, Present, and Future of the BAM.  The BellevueArtsMuseum had humble beginnings in September of 1947 when it began as the Pacific Northwest Arts and Crafts Fair in front of the Crab Apple Restaurant in what is now Bellevue Square.  At the time, Bellevue had a population of 8,000 and was just a "strawberry, country village".  It's first real home in 1975 was in the Green Chapel of Flowers - a mortuary, but moved to the 3rd floor of the new Bellevue Square in 1983.  At that time, it was the first museum to be located in a mall.

In December of 2000, the BellevueArtsMuseum (designed by renowned architect Steven Holl) moved into its new building at its current location on Bellevue Way.  After struggling for a few years the museum was closed in 2003, and reopened in 2005 with a new mission to return to its roots.  The current Executive Director/CEO is Mark Crawford.  As part of its vision, Peggy shared pictures of current exhibits which represent local and nationally known artists.

Peggy pointed out that the future of the BellevueArtsMuseum is all of us.  There are many ways to be involved.  The Arts Fair will take place on July 24, 25, & 26.  There are hands on crafts for kids in the museum, Free First Fridays, and a variety of tours.  Peggy encouraged everyone to get involved as a member, a donor, or a visitor.  Be sure to visit the Museum Store and you can check out more on the BellevueArtsMuseum at www.bellevuearts.org .  Thank you to Peggy for a very interesting and informative presentation.

The Honey Pot was won by Bob Norman!
