The Kirkland Rotary Club meeting of June 19, 2006 began at 6:30pm and was led by President Joanne Primavera.

Inspiration:   Joanne, who's looking forward to quite a vacation in July, gave us these words: "Most people spend more time planning their vacation than they do planning the rest of their lives".

Visiting Rotarians: Bud Saxberg from the University District and Foppe DeWalle from Delft, Holland.

Guests: We had several guests with us but no one signed them in, so they shall go unnamed.

Announcements:

  1. A delegation from John Muir came to say thanks to the club for all the help we gave them this year and to invite us to continue to visit them again next year.
  2. Jeremy Meadows reminded us that he needs volunteers to help set up the race course for the duck race on the 4th. Meet at the park in Juanita at 8:00am on July 4th.
  3. Bob Webb spoke about ticket sales for the race and reminded us that all the benevolent deeds we do are predicated on a successful duck race. All members are expected to sell at least $500 worth of ducks and if you don't have another way to sell them, the sales venues that the club sets up work great and you should take advantage of them. Time is flying by and we're only a couple of weeks from race day, so you need to get those tickets sold.
  4. Joanne thanked Rich and Nanette Bergdahl for hosting a very successful going away party for Scott Becker last Friday.
  5. Felicity announced that there is a party June 24 for the new Kirkland Rotary Club at the Dutton Music Center and Lounge (a private home), 9726 N.E. 139th Street, Kirkland. Featuring the exotic sounds of Novabossa. Victuals and libations provided by Dutton and Overleese.
  6. The transition dinner is July 10th this year.
  7. The Rotary contingent of the Kirkland 4th of July parade will again stage from the home of Steve Shinstrom's parents. Details to follow.
  8. The fireworks barge for the 4th of July has cancelled, so anyone with a contact should immediately contact Felicity or Joanne.
  9. Joanne thanked Al and Alice for all their work on this year's golf day.
  10. Patti Smith announced we need volunteers for the picnic July 4th. The greatest need is the 2:30 to 5:00pm shift. Contact Patti for details.

Program: President Elect Steve Brown and his 4 directors shared their vision for next year and requested feedback from the audience. He has a questionnaire that he would love to share with those who missed the meeting last night, and he humbly requests that we all fill it out and return it to him.

Steve's vision for his year is twofold: Make the Rotary Club of Kirkland relevant in our community and to our members, and to involve the club through increased communication, delegation and participation.

His mission for the club is to make a difference, make it meaningful and make it fun.

Don Dicks successfully bought the lucky ticket for the honeypot but was unsuccessful in winning the money.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50pm.
