President Jim Feek called the meeting to order.

Patty Sims led the Pledge of Allegiance.

There was no one scheduled to led the inspirational Moment so Ernie Norehad jumped up and read the 1994 inaugural speech of Nelson Mandela

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."  (The above speech by Nelson Mandela was originally written by Marianne Williamson who is the author of other similar material.)

Greeter was Shirley Van Nostrand

Program

Pat Dye presented Shirley Van Nostrand with her Blue Badge

Then the party began as Pat Dye & Pat Swenson hosted the baby shower for Patty Sims.

Gifts in Patty's honor can be made as a donation to Baby Corner Rotary First Harvest

Check written to Kirkland Rotary Foundation which is a 5013c.

As Patty began to open her gifts Pat Swenson announced a contest for guessing the time and weight of the baby.  Pat is donating the cash prize of $100!  She passed out the forms and the winner has to get both the answers correct!  The fun is that we already know Patty is having a planned birth date of April 18th!!

We had a Q&A form Pat Dye as the gifts continued to be opened and so far no name has been picked out, although it is a boy.

A fun story: How Patty and Steve met. On a Blind Date!  Steve was on his way to Idaho when his car broke down in Ellensburg.  The work was going to take 3 or 4 days so he rented a jeep and had went on his trip.  When he returned the car still wasn't ready so he called his Dad in Yakima to pick him up and then called an old friend he used to work with to go out for a drink.  She asked him if he was still single.  Yes he was.  She brought Patty along and the rest is history!!

Ernie got up and made a really bad joke about old women and old wine.  You got to love Ernie even if you don't like the jokes!

Pat Dye closed the shower for Patty Sims by honoring her for her work as the Rotary Club Youth Exchange Officer for the past two years.  She does so much work behind the scenes coordinating the exchange students and their host families and the activities that they do while they are here as our guests. Thank you Patty for all you do for Rotary and the exchange students!

In Closing

Jim Feek closed the meeting with another Ole and Sven story.
