Minutes for March 6, 2006 Rotary Meeting

The meeting was called to order by President, Joanne Primavera at 6:30 p.m.  The flag salute was lead by (sorry the name was not heard in the back of the room) and the inspirational moment given by Joanne.  (The footprints on your heart.)  Joanne also announced Bob Gasson would be taking pictures during the meeting and after the meeting.

Visiting Guests (except students and parents) were introduced.  They included Ellie Nash, the fabulous pianist from Sweetheart Night, Dave Honeycutt from Honeycutt & Associates, George Rivera (Student of the Month from BEST High School with a part-time job at Lee Johnson Chevrolet) and George McKinney, visiting Rotarian from Seattle Four.

Announcements:
Bob Auslander reminded us about NW Harvest Saturday, which is this Saturday, March 11th .  We are to meet at the Houghton Place Park & Ride in Kirkland at 8:00 a.m. (the north end of the parking lot)  to car pool to NW Harvest building.

Bob Auslander also reminded all Rotarians that a St. Patrick's themed Bosanova Party will be at his home on March 18th, starting at 7:00 p.m.  There will be a live band providing the music, lots of food and the wearing of the green.  Please bring your favorite wine to contribute to the celebration.  Reminder to the decorating and set-up committee  to be at Bob & Gayle's by 5:45 p.m.

Joanne acknowledged our Spelling Bee participants.  The team members were Alice Volpe, Dave Aubry and John Woodbery who placed 4th in the first annual Spelling Bee contest held at the Kirkland Performance Center.  All funds raised were for the Kirkland Library literacy fund.  Don Saul was one of the judges and told us our team was incorrectly eliminated by a mispronounced word, but the word was not challenged by our team, so the judges could not rule in their favor.  This team did an excellent job in representing the Kirkland Rotary with their amazing abilities.

New Member Inductions by Steve Brown:

Two new members were inducted into our Club, both individuals were current members of other Washington clubs, but moved into our area and found Kirkland dinner to be more convenient.

Debra Wakefield is joining the Club from Columbia Tower, Seattle.  Her mentor will be G.G. Getz.  Debra is an insurance and financial planner.

John Spangenberg
is joining the Club from Redmond noon.  His mentor will be John Overleese.  John is in Real Estate and Planning Consultant.

Both Debra and John were sponsored by Dave Aubry.

Other Announcements:

Craig Neil reminded the Club members of the upcoming Rotary Auction on April 2nd , starting at 5:30 p.m. in Kirkland at the Women's Club.  The fabulous Bruner spaghetti dinner will be served.  There will be a live and silent auction.  Please let Craig know if you have items to donate as soon as possible.  In support of the auction, the Mexican 10 were represented by Bill Taylor, Gary Bruner, Gary Shuster, Gary Redfern,  and Elizabeth Kemmish, all wearing their "What Happens in Mexico, Stays In Mexico" t-shirts.  They were the fortunate bidders on last year's auction item for condos in Mexico.

There is quite a story to go with their trip and will be shared with those that want to have further details.  This Scribe will allow each of the Mexican 10 to give their own version of events.
