Rotary Club of Kirkland
Monday, March 9, 2015 Meeting
President John Pruitt called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.  George Anderson led us in the Pledge.
Joanne Primavera inspired us with a Rotary Minute and a flag from the Port Alfred Club in South Africa.   Joanne acquired both the inspiration and flag during her recent trip to South Africa.
Guests:
Kathy Feek, Dee Woodbery and Jeff Hoertz
Visiting Rotarians:  George Seto and Carl Behnke, both from Seattle #4
Announcements:
Dave DeBois had two announcements!  On Saturday we will have our final First Harvest event at Northwest Harvest.  Meet at 8:00 AM at the Houghton Park & Ride to carpool to Kent.
Saturday evening is our Hockey Night in Everett.  Forty-one have signed up and Dave has a couple extra tickets available.  Meet at 5:00 PM at the Austin Bar& Grill for drinks and dinner.  Megan Nakanishi is carpooling in her Suburban if you need a ride.  “Lovely” Bob Webb has already signed up!  Meet Megan and Bob at the South Kirkland Park & Ride at 4:30 PM.
Joanne Primavera reminded everyone that next Monday evening’s meeting will be dinner at the Woodmark and then we will proceed to the Kirkland Performance Center for a live radio broadcast.  Contact Joanne if you haven’t signed up yet!  No charge for the ticket if you eat dinner at the Woodmark.
John Pruitt provided the Agenda for this Wednesday’s Board Meeting at Rich Bergdahl’s office and you are invited.  Just let John know you will attend.

Classification Talk
John Woodbery is now a published author!  John described the novels he’s written which are based on his life growing up in Florida, the people he knew, and the stories he learned as a young man.  The titles published so far are “Hidden” and the “The Pond.”  Upcoming titles this year are “Two Tomb Covers,” and “Earl’s Retreat.”  John thanked Jeff Hoertz for helping him with the books.  John’s books are on Amazon.com.
Happy Dollars
Rick Walters did his usual fine job of collecting happy thoughts and dollars to match.  Most interesting was auctioning off the chance to be the “President” and lead the March 30th and April 6th Club meetings in John’s absence.  The lucky winners were Megan Nakanishi on the 30th and Dave Aubry the 6th.  The bids totaled $175!
Program:
Jason Overleese introduced Kurt Triplett, the Kirkland City Manager.
Kurt first announced that the Waverly Park picnic shelter is a “Go!”  The City Council approved the picnic shelter and repair of the dock at last week’s meeting.
Instead of a Power Point presentation, Kurt had a handout for everyone that describes the major projects going on in the City, and opened up the floor for questions.
Topics discussed were the Aquatic Center and its location, the latest on the Totem Lake Mall (it’s been sold to a new developer!), car dealer expansion (or not), new Parks Department foundation, Potello status, and 405/City traffic jams.
Joker Pool
Dave Aubry drew the lucky ticket but did not draw the Joker.  The pool is over $2,000 now with 11 cards left.
President John adjourned the meeting at 7:50 PM.
