President Steve Brown called us to order at 6:30 PM.  Al Hoviland led us in the Pledge.  Steve thanked Evan Perroletz (one of our new members) for greeting and Mike Hunter for scribing this evening.

Guests:   Ashish Lakhanie, Evie Florian (a former member of our Club), Jed Reynolds and Rahel Tynan.

Student of the Month:   Michelle Hnatowich introduced Sylvia Tashev from JuanitaHigh School.  This is Sylvia's first visit to our Club.  She is from Bulgaria and has been here for nine years.  Her grade point is 4.0; she is on the swim team and recently had her personal best on the 50 yard swim!  Welcome to our Club, Sylvia.

Announcements :

  1. District 5030 is accepting applications for the 2009-10 District Governor position.  Contact President Steve for more information.
  2. President Steve announced this month's Board meeting on Wednesday, November 8 at EvergreenHospital at 5:00 P.M.  Let Steve know if you plan to attend.
  3. Katherine Kehrli described how we can help three families at JohnMuirSchool by signing up to bring all kinds of goodies for Thanksgiving baskets.  Bring everything the evening of November 20.  Jack & Cheryl Bloodworth (our newest members) are coordinating this event
  4. Also, Park Place Books is hosting an event soon that will donate 15% of the proceeds to JohnMuirSchool.  Katherine will let us know the date and time.
  5. Dan Bartel and John Overleese invited everyone to the next Alcohol Awareness evening, "Whiskies of the World," to be held on November 18 at 6:30 P.M.  Attendees are asked to bring either a heavy appetizer or dessert.  Cost is $15 per person, check or cash (no credit cards, and be sure to cancel 24-hours in advance if you can't attend to avoid being charged).  Only 15 spots left for this fun event where you'll learn a LOT about whiskies from the master himself (John) and maybe win a door prize!
  6. GG Getz announced our annual Holiday Party at the Broadmoor Country Club in Seattle (just across the 520 Bridge) on Sunday evening, December 3 at 5:00 P.M.  Sign up for three dinner choices and be ready to learn to dance with lessons from our own dance instructor!
  7. Bob Webb announced the Vice Duck for this year's big race on July 4: Michelle Hnatowich!  The Club wished both Michelle and Bob well in this next year's effort.

Chancellor:   David Aubry did a masterful job of extracting Happy Dollars from many Club members.  A few highlights:  Bob Webb learned how not to exit from singing in the choir at Church on Sunday (he tripped and fell into the baptism pool and luckily had only a few scratches!); Evie Florian has found the second love of her life and is moving to Switzerland; Bill Taylor is tired from painting the inside of his home; and Gary Schuster left his wife Zondra to deal with a rising Lake Wenatchee at their cabin near Wenatchee.

Program :   Patti Smith introduced P.S. Reilly who spoke on "Green and Greenbacks."  P.S. is currently a VP for Davis Media and they work with various companies exploring ways to make money from "green."  She presented four different trends:  Utility grids undergoing change; transportation changes; green buildings; and centers of excellence in communities.

The next big wave will be "sustainability," which basically means doing things to generate more value with less impact on the environment.  The mainstream population only worries about things happening 6 weeks ago and 6 months in the future, and as a result these 'waves' of change take time to develop.  Thank you P.S. for an interesting program.

Honey Pot :

Tom Sturgell won the drawing and actually picked the Rotary marble from the bag, winning $15 in the process.  We'll start over (again) next week.

Meeting adjourned at 7:45 P.M.

Respectfully submitted, Michael Hunter
