On October 22, President Rachel Knight call the meeting to order at 6:35pm with Ken Hollingsworth leading the Pledge.  Our program for the evening was a presentation by both the Incumbent Kirkland City Council member Jessica Greenway and her challenger Penny Sweet.  Due to their needs to continue on the campaign trail later this evening, we enjoyed their presentation first.

Jessica Greenway has been on the Kirkland City Council for 4 years.  She is a successful business owner in the Financial Planning field with her office in Pioneer Square.  She has served mulitple positions on Kirkland City Council and feels she brings energy, enthusiasm and experience to the position.  Her vision is to "Preserve a Small Town Atmosphere".  Some of her accomplishments have included:  Being a strong advocate for public safety, fiscal respoonsibility and the economic development program.  She has participated in the Totem Lake Mall refurbishment and assisted in laying the ground work for the new home of Google.

Penny Sweet and her husband Larry Springer have been active  supporters of Kirkland, both individually and through their family business, The Grape Choice. When they chose to make Kirkland their home in 1982, they did so knowing their decision would mean a lifetime of commitment to the community.  Penny is known as the organizer of "Celebrate Kirkland" or through her contributions to the Kirkland Centennial that she helped organize. As the founder and President of "Celebrate Kirkland", she pulled together a diverse group of Kirkland citizens including neighborhood representatives, community organizations, churches and businesses to establish what has evolved into the biggest community Independence Day celebration on the Eastside.  Penny has been door knocking since July and has heard from the citizens of Kirkland about their concerns for:  Density, No Parking, No Stores, Commuter Traffic Issues, and Enviromental issues.  Penny feels she has the leadership experience and working relationships for the issues, and she is ready go to work for Kirkland.

Chuck Brockway presented his Inspiration Moment with his "A conclusion is simply a place where you get tired of thinking". Guests for the evening were introduced.  Our exchange student from Switzerland, Pascal Weber; our student of the month from Juanita High School,  Paulina Przystupa; and attorney Rod Wellbaum.
