Lindsay Palmer, director of education at the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center, was our speaker for the evening. KCSARC is a private, nonprofit organization with services including Education, Child, Teen and Adult Therapy and Legal Advocacy. They also run the Sexual Assault Resource Line, which can be used to report incidences AND also if you have questions on how to handle situations. One of the main points Lindsay brought up is if you suspect something has happened or is ongoing, trust your gut and report it. Call the Resource Line if you have questions on how to proceed. When responding to a child victim, let them know you believe them and it's not their fault. Call 1) CPS if it's a family member that is the offender, or 2) Law Enforcement if it's not a family member.
Everyone received handouts; please read and use as a reference. Thank you Lindsay for your enlightening presentation and the work you do to help others.
Joanne Primavera was our Honeypot winner and donated her winnings to KCSARC.
Your Faithful Scribe,
